Hi,
I am considering doing a medieval army and after a walk in the town
where I saw a statue of Friedrich II - the last of the Babenbergers,
I remembered that our house is standing right beside the fields where
the Battle of the Leitha was fought in 1246. (when I was a child, me
and my playmates found several arrowheads from that battle in the
fields - they still lie around there quite often) In this battle
against the Madyars Friedrich lost his live and the line of the
Babenbergers ended.
So I thought that Friedrichs army would make up an interesting
project but now comes the problem. There are lots of references to
the battle but mainly from the point of view that Austrias rulinf
dynasty ended here and that after a interregnum the Hapsburgs came to
power. I wasn't able to find anything related to trooptypes and
strenghts involved.
Does anyone have by chance have information about this battle? Or
some links I could follow?
Many thanks,
cheers, Michael
