I am looking for seperate shields for the Byzantine army I am
painting. In particular I am looking for the tear drop shaped
shields. 25mm is the scale and I need 36 of them. Is anyone aware
of a manufactuer who makes such a beast?
Chris

Norman kite shields would do just fine. I think Ral Partha and Essex makes em
seperate and I bet Irregular does too. But then I never know wtf I'm talking
about on these things.

Thanks Scott,

I thought about kite shields and know that these are easily
acquired. I am actually looking for shields for the cav and it is at
least my impression that the Byzantine Cav shields were smaller than
the kite shaped of the Normans and Franks- hence the tear-drop
description. I have considered filing down some Kite shields to the
desired size, but for obvious reasons would like to avoid this
process. Any other thoughts?
Chris

Greg,

Thanks so much. How much do you want for the tear drop shields. I already
have plenty of kite shields but would like to get the former from you. Please
let me know what it would take for me to get you to part with them and include
what ever you think is appropriate for postage.
Thanks again,
Chris

If you can't find them ready-made, a quick and easy solution is to
hammer some old lead flat, and use a leather punch as your die. You
can find punches in all sizes and shapes at someplace like The
Leather Factory.

Dear Chris,

I have 6 of the tear drop shields which are 'surplus to requirements'.
I recently bought and painted up a whole pile of Blacktree design
Normans/ Peasants etc and as I am using them as Moogs I didn't need all
the shields Smile (I also have some of the "kite" style shields if they
are any use to you.) Drop me a line off list if you want these.
Cheers,

Greg Preston.

Essex miniatures do packs of 8 assorted kite-shaped shields. I don't know if
this is what you want? Steve
