If you are interested in camels then the only army to think about is
Biblical W. army 13 "Bedouin Trides"! A difficult army to play but
one you can grow to love. Don't let the 144 shieldless light infanry
put you of as you will be amazed at what tactics you can come up with
once you put mind to it. I use Chariot miniatures in 15 mm and the
old mini figs arad camel rider X2 in 25 mm.
Best regards John

Last time I played Derek Downs, he was using Mcamels in 8E units. As
long as he was able to keep my shooters away from them, which he did,
he was able to poor down some wicked fire upon my HI and HC. They
won the battle for him by shooting my HC into exhaustion at long
range. Also he combined those two units with 2E chariot units to
cause unease; and he used 4E RgD LMI B units to skirmish around and
sucker my HC into charging them.

Here was his basic setup: 4x 2E chariots (heavys with Generals) and
2x2E Lch. 4x4E RgD LMI B. 2x 8E MCm B. Some worthless MC and other
filler of dubious birth who's main role was to occupy space and
provide bulk to the commands.

He manuvered up to the centerline with the LMI and some Lch to cause
unease in my "C" troops and start the shooting. I caught one chariot
units and routed it with HC, but this was his plan as my IrgA HC
followed his unit into the heart of his army where the HCh dispatched
them. I shook one Hch, but the general healed himself. I killed 1
LMI unit and 1 MC unit, but he was outside of 120 with both so no one
cared. The LMI and Camels shot my HI halted every other turn, so
that by bound 6 they were tired and still marching forward with
nothing to touch (last time I run 6E HI btw). As the infantry
stalled, he would sneak the Lch up to try and get within charge range
of my IrgA and force a charge from me. It worked and my HC charged
to within bowshot of the camels; rally forward disordered and get
shot for 10 or 11 CPF, charge the camels exhausted, disordered and
turned to dust on impact as the camels shoot another 6 or so CPF in
support. I hit with IrgA HC L/sh at a -4 roll up 5 and inflict a
mighty "6" fatigues. He fights back at the halt with MCm, but I'm
exhausted so his 1 CPF to me does the HC in.

That is just an example of how you can use camels as part of a
combined arms shooting army.

I have a batch of Essex 25mm camels, and I was wondering what uses I
might find for them, especially with my Bronze Age stuff.

What tricky uses can one put this rather rare troop type to?

Flipping thru BW, I only see three armies that have them - #3, 21, 25.
In DAW, I only see them in #15,16, 15.
Those are the only two army list books I have. Are they in any other armies?

Does Essex make a rider figure having two riders on one saddle? Or
do people depict the second shooter as an infantry figure on the same
base?

Its hard to cram those giant camel figures on a base; what I think I
will do for MCm is put one on the base flanked by two clouds of dust.
Then I can remove the dust clouds to make it a LCm.

Anyone ever try painting cotton balls brown? Any ideas for modeling
good-looking desert dust clouds?
