The Cancon comp was 15mm on fairly large tables, so people generally
ran cavalry armies to take advantage of the extra room. My all foot
Aracaniun army set up first every time.
In Newcastle we play predominantly 25mm, so you see many more foot
armies. Where are you based Scott?

Thanks Muz. I am based in Canberra but will probably be moving back
to Brisbane mid year. Jerry Hearn in Canberra is giving me a game of
Warrior here in a couple of weeks. I'm looking forward to it :)
If I like it I will probably try to play a few games with friends in
Brisbane when I get back there too. Both they and myself have not
played much DBM lately, mostly doing Flames of War instead (good
fun). But we all still have a few ancient armies left, so if Warrior
works...

Leigh Dunn in Canberra is another good one to get a game with.
In Australia we have made the change from 7th for a year now, and all
are very happy with it. The changes, whilst relatively minor, allow
the game to flow much more easily, and are accordingly more enjoyable.
Another advantage is that the rules are much more easily understood,
and are supported by rapid clarifications from Jon on this site
(although do check the rules first to avoid venomous retorts ) The
game remains complex and challenging however.
You should choose your type of army (some feel more at home with foot
compared to cavalry) and stick with it for a while to learn its
particular strengths and weaknesses. The rules and lists are
available in Australia through Front Line Hobbies based here in
Newcastle, and can be ordered from them over the net.
If possible, you should aim at playing in the next Sydney comp, which
is likely to be 'Lance and Arrow' on 12th to 14th June, the Blue
Mountains comp (also in June)or of course our comp in Newcastle on
April 24/25. The drive is only 4 hours if you do it in the early
morning!
