After receiving my copy of Classical Warrior - all I can say is "Thanks!"
Considering every army I currently own is in this book - I have been
anticipating this particular book of lists for some time.

Now for my question:

In the Late Achaemenid Persian list (#1Cool - there is no mention of Bactrian
Infantry for this army. Is this an oversight or intentional? They are in
the FW list and in the old lists (not that it means much to be in either at
this point), and since I have 16 elements of Bactrian LMI - I was curious.
Is there an E-bay sale in my future?

BTW - good work. Practically every issue I have had with my research and
the old lists has been addressed in one form or another.

If that is an oversight, what scale are these bactrians? I see I need them now
for my Bactrian Greeks if I take any infantry. I prolly would only need 4-6
elements.

15mm (18mm) Xystons. They are mounted as Irr LMI, and they are wearing the
Median style clothing. If they become superfluous, I will sell you 8
elements.Wink. I have used the Xyston Persian Takabara / Archers mixed in
the unit to reflect the (old) armament and dress of this troop type.

This is not an oversite. What old lists? FW lists were done 4 years
prior to this list. #18 represents additional research, the FW
version represents the best guess at the time.

I'm kind of curious as to what has happened to the LMI JLS, B, Sh infantry that
made up the center of the Persian line @ Marathon and the old Kardake Takabara
option to arm these as JLS,B, Sh???? I have 96 of these figures that I've used
in the Late Achamenid Persian Army for years and now they are not listed??? It
seems that armament on the Takabara is still in doubt. Why not give the player
the decision to decide?

This is not the only lead that I own that is no longer allowed in the achaemenid
Persian lists by FHE , I have 2 very nicely painted Seige Towers (Cyrus the
Great) and 12 double ridden Persian Camels that are no longer in the list. The
camels I might add were made up using Persian riders from 3 cavalry packs in
which I drilled holes in the hands and replaced the spears with sharpened wire
and then had to buy 3 of the Camel packs (cutting off the midianite rider who
was part of the figure). Trust me when I say the whole process took up lots of
time and effort! The figures are excellent and now I can't use them in Warrior
sanctioned tournaments. How sad. . . :(

Regardless of my loss in figure use, I believe that both lists are more
competitive as they are written and I laud those involved for their work. I'm
just saddened that all my hard work to build this 3rd or 4th tier army back in
the day has come to naught. What a waste.

Uhhh.... I appologize for the error, but the camel riders came from 6 Essex
packs as each camel had two riders. Yikes! Kinda scary at the total number of
figures that I own that can't be used for this list anymore. That would be 96
Kardake Takabara + 36 total figs in the camels along with the 8 archers in the
two seige towers. At least I can reassign the archers to different MOS in their
old army, but I'm sure they will miss being in a high fortified vantage point!

Kelly,
What list had all of those units of LMI JLS, B, Sh? Is this an old
Barker list?

Mike,

It was both the old barker list and the NASAMW Lists. Not to mention Craig
Scott's list.

The difference was that the Society list made them morale D instead of C morale
that Phil assigned them. I can only suppose that Scott makes the Takabarra D
morale because it has been noted that they peed their pants (being good pants
wearing non greeks!) when Alexander and his companions charged them frontally at
Issus. This accurately portrays that particular force. The debate has gone back
and forth. If I'm not mistaken, Hutchby and Clarke lists agree with the FHE
interpretation buy making the Kardake Takabara LTS armed. Evidently the list
editor chose to make a stand and I cannot fault him for that as LTS would
definitely be the right choice for Western armies. As for Eastern armies. . . it
would seem the bow would predominate and considering that the Spear and Bow were
the Persian Naitonal Weapons-- You will note that the King of Kings is always
armed with both to represent this. And it has been written that the Kardake
Takabara was formed up from the sons of noble houses (who
by nature would stand by tradition and make sure their progeny could use both
bow and spear).

Now since FHE will likely never allow the option to have it both ways, can
anyone suggest a figure manufacturer that makes a cool looking Persian Takabara
armed with an LTS, Sh? I've seen the Viking forge figure with the hoplon, but
I've not seen any others to compare with these. I've seen some real cool
Takabara by Old Glory, but they are armed in the traditional way JLS,B,Sh and
somebody needs to let them know that their figures no longer apply to warrior. .
. ! lol! So about my query, has anyone seen any cool figs that will work for
this?

Oh, OK, I haven't seen the other two, but I didn't remember Phil
