Deployment based on paces away from center line: Yes.

Deployment 240p away from the side edge? It does hinder forming

corner fortresses somewhat. Let cavalry and lights deploy there.

The fact that 15mm units are a few percent larger relative to ground

scale is the core anomaly. It has small tactical effects across

scales, a difference that ideally would not exist. I don't see the

difference as fixable and I would like to know what these potential

traps are.

For battlefield size, logic suggests that there's no reason not to

standardize if the two games are not substantially different, and a

strong reason to standardize if they are substantially different.

Either way, logically you pick the single best size in paces for the

game system as a whole at a certain point level and go with that

across the board as the default board size.

Wait, wait, I realize that's not going to happen.

But what about grandfathering the respective board sizes while

reconciling the differences. Is there any reason you can't have

both a "regular" and "supersize" map tied to paces, the first

coincidentally ending up at 8x5 in 25mm and the other at 6x4 in

15mm, with everything else pro rata?

Then we have large or small boards applicable to any scale rather

than 15mm or 25mm boards.

Best of luck sorting this out, BTW,

Mike

Hmmn

As far as i know 8x5 boards do not exist in the UK. I have two 8x4 and one

6x4.

Correct me if im wrong regarding standard sizes available in the UK or other

countries.

I guess its a texan thing...

So before leaping to a standard of 8x5 consider those that cannot get them.

From what I have seen (which is relatively little...), most are

creating 8 x 5 by putting two tables together and then taping/marking

the needed area.

The local store we normally game at has only 6 x 4 tables.

You don't have Ping Pong tables in England?

You don't have Ping Pong tables in England?

Well yes there is the odd ping pong table in the country, although much

scarcer these days than they were. I have never seen one used for wargaming.

The 8x4 board is a standard board you can buy for about £10 ( about 7

dollars?) from your local builders or timber merchant. Most wargamers i know in

the

UK have these covered with cloth.

Incidentally cloth comes 52 inches wide, which is just enough to cover the

board and edges, at 8x5 this would not be possible.

Thinking ahead, if a tournament was to be run again in the UK there is no

way enough ping pong tables could be mustered.

Maybe those that played 7th in the Worlds at Derby can remember what size

boards were used. I was there but thought they were either 6x4 or 8x4 depending

on scale.
