And to return the compliment, Mark's points are quite likely more
pertinent than mine; I (flattery to the contrary, for which thanks, guys!)
am *not* an experienced Warrior player, yet. I was, I think, a good 7th
player, and had good results there, but I've only played a total of
something like maybe 12 games of Warrior, alas. Fortunately, I bluff
well!

It will be noted that Chris dumped me as a doubles partner at around the
time that Warrior came out... Wink). [[he also makes a good point, that I
am more comfortable with controllable - regular - armies than with
barbarian foot, really, and so tend to pick the former. Playing to ones
strengths is worthwhile in army selection]]

moreover, I'm discussing Li an El bases from only one side of the
exerience - as I noted, I've never given a serious try to the base-mounted
LI, so may be missing something. Mark is, I think, right that placing
such reduces the variance of the troops - bad if you're aiming for 4
5-point wins, maybe good if you find yourself on the part of the learning
curve where you are losing elephants regularly.

And since I'm doing caveats here, I should repeat that I've especially not
had much recent experience facing the heavy missile armies that seem to be
in vogue. I did get to take Derek apart at H'con, but that was in the
Theme rather than the NICT Smile.

I suppose this is true, too, and my basic counter - that you shouldn't be
in this situation! - maybe just underlines Mark's warnings to new elephant
users. On the other hand, if your best game plan with the El is to
receive impetuous foot charges, you were in trouble to start with!

I'll pay you later, Mark. And as Chris notes, my usual part in those
games was to look up after manouvreing on bound 2, to find that Chris was
declaring six impetuous charges... ...that didn't stop when we played
pre-feudal Scots and his job was to, ah, "stay out of the way" with the
LTS foot...

Chris quoth:

I know, I know. Budweiser at 8 a.m. should make a man of me, right?
