This is interesting. I recall back in the hoary days of 6th, Steve Barney
brought Polybians to the Nationals, and made the final four against 3
Seleucids. (!) When Johnson Hood beat him, Johnson consoled him with 'Really
Steve, it was fairly simple- every unit in my army could beat any one in
yours!'

One of the reasons I asked for the army results was to gain some
perspective on player-army interaction. It was particularly
interesting to me because my in my second round of Scott's Fast
Warrior tournement I played Polybian Roman against the Seleucids. I
won that round. Then in the third round I walked around the table
and took command of the same Seleucid army I had just defeated. I
then went on to win that round. I thought it was just an interesting
perspective on the "Killer Army" view that exists.

By the way my first fight I was the Hsiung Nu and was stomped by the
Han army. I was very uncomfortable with the Hsiung army and
unfamiliar with how to employ an all cav force (infantry armies have
allways been my preferance), let alone all those LC, UGH!. I felt
very much a fish out of water. My command on the tabletop reflected
my aprehension. If I had stayed with my original plan I would have
come out OK....not sure I would have won, but I think it would have
been closer. Instead I decided to reinforce my right flank which
opened a gap in the left center and the Han took advantage of my
fidgiting.

I greatly enjoyed the tournement. It was fast and not grueling like
some tournements. I played a different army each time and enjoyed
the different challenges presented by the matched pairs. I think key
to success is spending some thought on the actual matched pairs.
Scott did and I think it showed.
