The kings of the battle are the SHK that rolls over Aztecs with a minimum of
trouble, Aztec is a good army but can anyone tell me what has won the last few
nationals Knights fighting a rank and a half is what.
All the best

Dave Markowitz (sp?) won with a Macedonian pike army and I got it with a
Mongol Yaun army. Robert T almost beat me with a Han Chinese. SHK are
very good but only if they have good support.

As I recall, didn't scott MacDonald win the gunlinger
tournament that dwight coats put on in colorado
springs with Inca? What was the pay off for that
event?
$500.00 bucks? Gee wouldn't that be nice money!

Hi Rob . Do I have to disagree with *everyone* here? Yes, SHK scare
Aztecs. But they're damn expensive. I would bet that I've run Aztecs
more than almost anyone in the US, and I've also run the most SHK-heavy
army I know (Later Imperialists with either 10 or 11 SHK or mixed SHK
units). Now, sure, I'd rather have the Imps for this matchup -but unless
the knight player is *good*, the Aztec will cream them - slings are
godlike against 6-man SHK units!
To win as the knights, then, requires you to be chaging a non-skirmish LMI
unit from 3.5 inches. It isn't certain, even then, but pretty likely. To
win the *battle*, you need to be able to do this in several places -
otherwise sure, you pursue the warrior unit, and the knights/Otomi hit you
in both flanks, a la Chris Damour's vikings. The good news is that the
warriors are expensive - 106 points for a 16-man unit - so that my Imps
have roughly one knight unit for every warrior block. but I'd bet that my
Aztecs can beat Scott's knights [how's them for fightin' words?]
The wider debate is what beats SHK. The answer is elephants.
Unfortunately, I've now taken on Dave Stiers' knights with my Seleucids
twice, and lost twice - even if the first time required my CinC to die by
catastrophe in the only combat he won during the game! - which really just
demonstrates that even in such matchups, the better *player* wins, not the
better army. Alas .
Ewan, who is getting lured back in by all this wargaming talk!
