I can see this, for me kind of goes back to the importance of suitable plans and
execution.

Problem in my particular case is that the particular lists I played the most...
(a) were somewhat one-dimensional, at least in the versions I was putting on the
table (or for which I had figures)
(b) have been competitively improved somewhat under Warrior, but are now
signifigantly different lists as a result - meaning I am scrapping again for
figures and back to the drawing board on learning what works or not with them

Now I have the lead for some shiny new (and more balanced though certainly not
designed as "killers") armies which I haven't used in a Warrior tourney yet.
We'll see.

On the matter of armies, a lot of it is what you like. Personally I tend to
agree with Ewan on army selection for performance. I love some of my armies
that cost 154 pts for a 16 man unit, however you have to be very good or very
lucky against someone who payed 110 points for a 32 man pike block, because
he just has so much more stuff.
However the game is all about economy of force and well co-ordinated attacks,
so the better you are the easier/mpore efficiently you can use and army. I
think that beginner gamers should use armies that do not require vast amounts
of manoever, and dont have major flank problems and learn by watching the
masters, Ewan, Dave Stiers, Dave Markowitz run their armies.
I guess it is all taste but if you want to run a high cost army you had
better be able to force a point in your opponents army or be prepared to be
overwhelmed.
All the best
Robert

I agree with Robert and I would add that a person who is new to the Warrior
system should start out with an army that is mostly made up of regulars with
decent morale (at least "C") which are much more forgiving maneuver wise and
allow you a decent chance to counter when you see that you've made a newbie
mistake. Also more importantly, try to find an opponent who is likely to explain
to you your options. As you become more familiar with the game, branch out and
use some irregular units(these require a bit more planning than the regular
troops and are less able to get themselves out of a pinch! In a nutshell, find
an army that has a core of Regulars along with good irregular extras. I will not
pimp any particular armies as I'm sure many here have their favorites.
Good Gaming!
