I believe that Pompei (spelling?) used elephants. Makes sense too as
he had a lot of African allies. Look at the Hutchby and Clark lists.
It is one of the last ones covering Rome during the first
Triumverate. H&C give fewer elephants, I believe. Interestingly, they
allow LHI legionaires on a few of these lists as an option.

I hope that FHE decides to allow Roman legionaires of this period and
beyond to move as loose order against other foot and to not take
wavers vs. cavalry should they move the 120 paces. This should also
extend to close order Hypaspists and possibly other pike armed
Macedonians. Plenty of evidence shows them moving and fighting in
more difficult terrain (Hypaspists and Legionaires) with the regular
pike having less evidence as such. This would be similar to
the "Swiss rule" for theme tournaments in the past that allow similar
movement for close order troops. So I would suppose the Swiss should
have the list rule as well. I don't have a problem with list rules by
the way. The Testudo applies only to Roman armies and the fact that
it is placed in the regular rules section is only (my opinion)
because of Barker's preferrence for Roman armies ;-)Roman legions
were the most highly trained and drilled infantry of the ancient era;
at least through the Severan era.

My opinions of course ;-)

***Thanks Chris. I'm not familiar with Huchby and Clark lists. Are
they out of print, or do you know if there might be some place I can
pick them up? Also, are they allowed in tourney's until replaced by
FHE lists?

Dave

Dave

I have the H+C lists. We should meet somewhere and you can borrow mine.

I have been working on just such a thing. But the jury is still out.

I am writing an x-rule like that for all CO foot, which I will have out soon
so players can try it and give us some feedback.

Dave, JON,
Since I have the Hutchby and Clark rule book and JON, since I also own the
12 stands of the Sons of Middian that you would like to buy, why don't we meet
at tabletop games this Monday or Tuesday to settle up?
Kelly
PS Jon, would you contact me off the Warrior page concerning the price if you
are still interested?
