Even Ranks of elements in a Unit

   I never really understood the need for even ranks of figures for regular units.  Other than visual representation, it is not "accurate"  If our figures represented one man, or one row of men, then I could see it, but they do not.  They represent 5 ranks of 10, and a theoretical unit of 8 elements, 3 wide, the final rank of two elements would simply represent 3 or 4 ranks of men, a thinning out.  I do not see why regulars should be penalized for good behavior.
