Fall In went really well. We had enough space (barely but not cramped) and a
good group for the various events. What follows are all the results. The onl
y thing missing are some of the armies used for Saturday night's FW Open 15mm
event (but I'm getting that from Bill later today).
First, thanks to Jamie for showing up early and playing a 1600pt warmup game b
etween his Incas and my Burgundian Ordonnance. We had a number of people come
by and stare closely. Of course we got the occasional raised eyebrow at the
matchup but Jamie pointed out that at least the two armies were conteporaries
and that most of the equipment in the Burgundian army was used by the Spanish
in the New World (SHK being the exception). Second, thanks to Ed for FIVE gam
es at his house on Wed and Thu (we played 3 Warrior games and 2 FW games and a
re working on a very intriguing tournament campaign concept). Third, thanks t
o all the players who were patient with me as I relearn the nuances of the rul
es and pored over a couple of places that I'm still unsure of (private emails
to Jon are being drafted:) ).
I was also pleased that we had two first time winners this year. Mark Hissam
is a die hard 15mm player who has been around for about 50 years. He's placed
second lots but never outright won one. He corrected that this time in drama
tic fashion by coming from behind to beat Ed Bernhard in round 3. Mark had 8
points going into it, Ed 10. Mark trashed Ed's Timurid buzzsaw 5-2 in the las
t game. The day before, Mark Cribbs (he provided the draft Romano-British lis
t for DAW btw) won the FW Theme event decisively beating second place Legal Ho
Bill Low in a Byzantine civil war. Note who won the FW 25mm Open. That's no
t a typo:) :)
One note on format. The "two-day" Open worked *okay*. Well, it was great for
me because on Saturday morning, I didn't hafta sweat much. But, I also think
that one Open event bracketed by two FW events isn't the way to go. That bei
ng said, I was pleased at the number of people who came up (Sean Scott being t
he most noteworthy) saying "Man, these Fast Warrior games were a BLAST" (or so
mething to that effect). Later on, Mike Kelly and Rich Kroupa said that when
they get together for an evening, they most often play 3 FW games instead of 1
Warrior game, mainly because it's such a hassle to drive to either's place an
d they're already brain dead by that time of the day. That tells me even our
"hard core" player base really really likes FW. Nonetheless, I'll be rethinki
ng the Fall In Schedule for next year.
