Several things came up at Fall In that I want to revisit. Some I found in the
rules, others, I'm talking over with Jon.
1) Variable charge moves. It was pointed out to me that some players roll for
charge moves regardless. Under this line of thinking, a HC unit charging some
hapless MI JLS weenies standing to receive the charge and positioned exactly
160p away *might* "roll short" on it's charge move and thus, not contact the
target. At Fall In I said "that is patently bogus" but didn't quote chapter and
verse. Here's chapter and verse:
6.112 Variable Moves (top of page 33)
"The following are variable moves:
Charges at evading or routing troops"
Thus, it should be awfully clear to everybody that charges at stationary troops
are *not* variable moves and thus, dice are not rolled to determine the
variability (if any) of said move. Therefore, it's not possible to "roll short"
on a charge against a stationary target.
2) Definition of HALT. Someone who was shot into HALT wanted to go into
skirmish during the next bound. I incorrectly allowed him to do so. Again, the
rules are very clear on this (I just didn't find it).
11.1 Results of Prep Shooting (page 73)
Look at the second para under the bulleted section. It reads "When an
appropriate body takes 2CPF from prep shooting and either must halt of chooses
to halt, it CANNOT perform any voluntary movement (approaches, counters.......).
Sorry I missed that and hopefully it didn't hose up the game too much. But
since it was clearly in the rules, calling me over to adjudicate just reinforced
the axiom that umpires only exist to screw up your games:) :)
