Attached are the Fast Warrior playtest rules. You guys won't have the Fast
warrior Lists yet, but just use a 600 point army, just the CINC.
Tried the rules today (Normans v Vikings).
1. 2'x2' table did not work for 15mm. At all. Scott doesn't think we
should go any smaller with the armies, so we upped the size for 15mm. Also
made 25mm 4'x'3 not 4'x4'.
Note that a 6'x4' geohex mat makes 4 3'x2's or 2 4'x3's very quickly.
2. Lack of flank marches/force marches/ambushes and having only one command
made for a very smooth and quickly resolved game. Both players really
enjoyed themselves.
Let me know what you guys think.
Todd K: use these with the lists Scott gave you, thanks.

Pay for the CINC too?
Also - I am working on a Heain Japanese army. They use Samarai HC with
B and SA. It says they can fight in wedge. Since they have no 1-1/2
rank weapon under the new Warrior rules do I fight 1 rank or 1.5? I
fell I should get to fight 1.5 ranks deep.
Also Also - on variable moves. There is some confusion here about how
do do a variable move under probe orders. If I am HC and roll a 6, we
always go 80p (MUST deduct). The rules seeem to say I can go 160p
(choose not to accept the otional deduct distance) or OPTIONALLY go
80p. It appears that your intent is that the die roll of 5 or 6 gives
you options to your normal tactical move, but under probe you can only
select the deduct option 9but do not have to - hence the "option"). I
submit that it is not written very clear and the only way I found this
was in your example. Without it, I would never have seen it like this.
As I stated before we play that you MUST DEDUCT if you roll 5/6. It
looks like we are playing qwrong, but the rules could use some ironing.

If you are making a 600 point army for Fast Warrior playtest purposes, yes
you do pay for the CINC.
I have no idea if Japanese cav will have the wedge list rule. Ask Scott.
Scott??
You must deduct optional distances on charges and pursuits under probe, hold
and delay. This is not a change in Warrior.
Don, wrap an iron bar in this email and hit the guy who taught you WRG 7th
with it.
Optional if self-taught!

>They may or may not. Furthermore, this particular Japanese list may or may
not exist in Oriental Warrior. I have reams of material supplied by the late
Mike McGinnis and the not-late Jevon Garrett that will form the basis for the
Japanese lists. This seems to fly in the face of our general approach as to
not massively screw with things. However, that applies more to the old WRG
lists and NASAMW revisions, not some of the flaky Book of Hosts and "new" WRG
lists (which were not done by Phil, only published by WRG). So at this point,
I can't say with any certainty. Don't panic too much in the near term since
Oriental Warrior will either be the last or next to last army list book we
publish, which means 2 years down the line.

But you mean IF I choose to do anything with the optional distance
right? I can choose not to deduct the optional distance because it is
an option? I just can not choose to add the optional distance (under
probe, hold, delay).

LTc Grimmett is correct. The clause "unless impetuous" does and will
continue to apply to that rule.

Disregard first response.
The "unless impetuous" applies to probe, hold and delay. Something Jon may
want to relook. Makes sense for probe; maybe not for hold. Can't see
rolling up on delay orders.

Yes but what do I do TODAY? If I am playing these dudes do my cav fight
1 1/2 ranks or not? Wedge is gone so what do I do?
>Ah, duh, missed the core reason for the question. Lemme cogitate on that one
for a couple of days.

For the time being, if you are using a list that says they wedge, fight 1.5
ranks.

I would also think that you should fight them 1.5 ranks only on the first
turn. In WRG they would revert to block after that and only fight one rank.
Similarly, in Warrior lance only counts 1.5 ranks if chaging or
countercharging.

Jon & Jake,
Thanks for putting on a great Fast Warrior introductory tourney. I
had a blast!! I was impressed with the greater dimensional feel of
Fast Warrior over DBA. And man was it fast. Still wish I would have
done better against Kelly's Irreg A's. Good job Kelly...one of these
days I will beat you.

Michael
Warrior is our ancient and medieval rules set. It contains a set of 276 army
lists and rules to play smaller games (1.5 hours to finish, 15mm: 3'x2'
table, 25mm 4'x3' table) called Fast Warrior. Fast Warrior armies are *about*
twice the size of DBA armies (24 or so elements).
Warrior is available (and more information about it can be found) at our
website:
