I wanted to post two items, as I have been thinking about them a lot, The
first is fast warrior, and the second is non-compatative gaming:
1) Non-competative gaming
I think our biggest weakness in getting new players is the lack of non
competative gaming, I know that living in a town where no-one does Warrior,
and not having access to occasional games where you just do what if's does
not improve ones gaming. I personally believe that large multiplayer games at
cons would help. But the biggest impetus for new gamers is club activity, and
the people like Tod Kaeser who do this well are generating interest.
2) I personally don't see a lot of value in fast warrior tournaments at major
cons, when they replace the mini-open etc. In my opinion they may contribute
some new players, but will erode the existing player base. I know that I will
reconsider spending the money to go to cold wars, if it is for one
tournament. I am sure there are others with similar reservations.
Having concurrant or midnight madness type tournaments would be in my mind a
better idea.
My tuppence worth
Robert

>Um, Fall In ain't Cold Wars so please don't compare the two in terms of
what we do Warrior-wize. The schedule for Fall In was done at the
behest of Scott McDonald who wanted us to "experiment" with running a
1600 point tourney over a two day period (the way we usta do it in
fact). I said fine but also wanted to "fill" the other time, hence FW.
I have no expectation of changing the basic schedule of Warrior events
at Cold Wars or Historicon. If anything, we'll run FW alongside
something else. Those discussions are ongoing.

I am sure there are others with similar reservations.

>I must respectfully disagree. Midnight Madness tournaments tend to do
nothing more than kill the next day's event because too many guys just
don't wanna drag themselves outta bed, particularly for a Warrior
tourney which requires more firing synapses than some "other"
tournaments. Still not sure how I'm gonna fit FW into things but it'll
fit because currently, it's one of the best "tournament" ways to get
people into the game. See previous comment about running FW alongside
something. Furthermore, duplicate FW tourneys are a great way of
testing a player, in some ways "better" than if you show up with your
optimized pet army:)Smile:)

>As for the other "non-competitive" game ideas, all are great but
require *volunteers* to put on said games. Unless people, mainly
tournament gamers, give up a tourney to put on demo games, it ain't
gonna happen. I have never liked doing ancients demo games, hence, why
I've never done em. But I would love to see them. Danny Weitz and Walt
Leach usta be our biggest demo games people but, understandably, they
eventually burned out on doing them.

Sunday morning is a great time to get in a few rounds of FW. After the
heavy-lifting is over, but the urge to kill remains, FW provides a good
cool down, easing the transition to normal existence.

We had 8 players at an essentially unannounced, pick-up event on the Sunday
after Historicon, played concurrently with the finals that morning, which
seemed to please. Jamie Gentry took first place. Thanks to everyone who
participated.
