True. Only troops forced march.
How are the placement of ditches to the center line within friendly
forward areas impacted ( if at all ) by enemy forced marchers? >>
They are not.
Are the ditches moved back as would troops be under 14.43 against
opposing forced marchers or are the ditches allowed to stay where placed?>>
TFs in the forward zone are not troops and would not be moved back by enemy
troops forced marching.
Are troops defending the ditch allowed to defend the ditch if the ditch
is allowed to stay, or are the defending troops required to be withdrawn
back per 14.43, leaving the ditch behind?>>
No...Yes....Nothing about TFs changes 14.43.
Are enemy troops required to be withdrawn back per 14.43 due to the
placement of a ditch?>>
No.
Now, fair is fair. I have answered your questions; answer one of mine:
Is there anything written in either 14.43 or the list rule for forward placed
TFs that indicates anything other than what I have answered? I cannot see
any reason for the questions but want to make sure I haven't missed something
that might need clarification.

Hi Jon,
The rules are clear on deploying troops by forced march into the forward
areas but leave placing ditches into the forward areas to the army lists.
Some lists allow the placement of ditches into friendly forward areas.

Are enemy troops required to be withdrawn back per 14.43 due to the
placement of a ditch?
Thanks,
Ed

John,
Not to speak for Ed or anyone else. From my reading and use of
forward placed TF, it has much potential to make certain "new" armies
very workable in a way that is non-traditional in relation to TOG.
Typically TF were disregarded in the olden days and used sparingly as
a less than effective side show. In many new list, such as Swiss,
the use of forward placed stone walls for forced marched LI HG or
even LMI P to stand behind makes for some interesting and new battle
tactics that would have been less than futile in days gone by. So I
see some real possible tactical options now that may not win battles
but will certainly dictate initiative and pace. I'm thinking these
questions on forward TF and fire arrows are just such thought trains
in others. I see it, IOW, as another possitive tactical
consideration in Warrior rather than any malfunction of the rules as
written. People are viewing tactically first, then insuring their
tactics comply with the word and _spirit_ of the rules.
For example, what would Jake's Champa do if facing the Swiss army
with some forced marched troops (say half) behind stone walls that
are cover and an obsticle? I would say the difficulty of dislodging
the Swiss without undue casualties has appeal. Now I check the rules
and sure enough this is doable; now check with Jon to make damned
sure I'm understanding the nuances. Think of it as part of the troop
leading procedure "reconnoiter". :)

Just wanted to be sure I had the logic correct. Not all is what it seems
in any set of rules.
Better to have the error of my ways pointed out here than in a
competition game.
