Will there be a barbarian (Norse) list in FanWar? Yes.

Jon,
I think Don was refering to the question I posed earlier regarding the
Hyborean lists. I suppose that since Howard based much of his Fantasy on
historical military systems that the point is moot here. Further, if you will
recall from the books, there were a race of viking types in addition to Conan's
people, which hardly satisfys the question. So I suppose that If one were to run
a campaign for Hyborea, they would not have official lists from Warrior.

PS Were you serious about those Midianites or were you just pulling my chain?

Fantasy Warrior rocks! I've never played a game yet but actually stopped "rea
l" army list production to do 5 army lists from that fantasy world that will h
ave a big movie coming out about it in oh, about two weeks (don't want any cop
yright issues now do we?).

I have one army in 25mm already "Dark Lords" but need to rebase the damn thing
.

I know more than a couple who would absolutely love to bail on the GW and
other
crappy "kid" stuff and start playing their fantasy battles with a set of rules
intended for "Real Men"[tm].

I imagine that FanWar + Swordplay ( Skirmish Warrior ) will float alot of
people's boats out there.

This bit from Jon only goes to reinforce my notion.

I'm betting the dudes at Four Horsemen have got a good handle on things -
it looks to me like they got one hell of a killer lineup in the pipeline,
can't wait 'till it all starts rolling in.

Scott,
LOTR lists are all very well, but anthying that delays publication
of the Hellenistic era army lists is a BAD THING. I have a rolled-up
newspaper. Don't make me use it! BAD HO ! BAD !
Seriously, the absence of current lists for all the most popular
armies from TOG has kept a few of the old time grognards from
returning to the colors for Warrior. Why worry about only a few ?
Because, my dear fellow, a few is all there are ! When I say "all the
most popular lists" I mean locally , here in NOCAL, where 300 BC to
400 AD Europe and Mid-east are, basically, what folks play.Maybe
we're weird, but that is they way things are. Frankly, I do not know
ANY gamers who need another set of Fantasy rules or lists. I know
several who wish they could buy Classical Warrior and/or Imperial
Warrior. Just my $.02-dave lauerman

Kelly

I am very interested, Kelly. If they are the SAME paint job/figure and you have
12 stands, I'd pay you $2 a fig for them. Just need to figure out when you can
swing by to do the deal.

Ok, noted...lol

<<I know several who wish they could buy Classical Warrior and/or Imperial

Including me. I totally agree that FanWar lists should not delay any historical
list production (nor should anything else). I am the FanWar list guy, not
Scott. I let him draft a few of the 'traditional fantasy' lists while he took a
quick mental break after HolyWarrior. He is back at work now.

However much I agree that we need to keep hot on the historical list schedule, I
am comfortable with the decision to do Classical and Imperial near last. Those
lists HAVE to be right. Those lists HAVE to be the best of their kind in the
business. And we want all the clarifications worked through and list rule
playtest we can get before we go final.

Also, FanWar is an AWESOME recruiter for Warrior. I am on my twelfth new
Warrior player through the FanWar playtest. That would be 12 for 12 in terms of
new guys asked.... and 12 for 12 in terms of guys who play in the playtest but
have also started playing historical Warrior. The fact that your area has zero
need for new fantasy lists/rules (which i don't believe as the fantasy community
is SCREAMING for a set of rules with balanced lists that allows the use of any
figure made) has no bearing on our decision to work on the project since that
decision is based on an national and international marketing view.

Don't worry though - FanWar is having no impact on our list production. Scott
would have taken (and needed) that short break in any case...lol

Thanks, Jon (he said, in a much calmer voice, no longer
hyperventilating ). I feel much better now. I am even willing to let
Scott take a break for awhile EVEN THOUGH I DO NOT YET OWN HOLY
WARRIOR. Magnanimous of me, I know ;^).I am glad to know that the
reason for leaving CW and EW for last is quality control, altho I
still wish they would be out sooner.
thanks- dave lauerman

That should be pretty cool. I have a 25mm Conan fig that would go great as
a Barabarian CINC.

>This is a good seque into refreshing everybody's memory about list production
and the rationale behind the schedule.

>The main reason that Classical and Oriental and Imperial are dead last is bec
ause both periods/locations have received *three* treatments over the years, N
ASAMW revisions, Book of Hosts, "new" WRG (okay, Imperial has only received tw
o treatments, NASAMW and Book of Hosts but that's why it's next up after Feuda
l). Our attitude was that other periods had been neglected for the better par
t of 10-20 years, therefore, that periods would be updated first. The one pos
sible exception to this was Biblical Warrior because it had received three tre
atments. Why? Four reasons:

1) I was already 1/3 thru them by the time we finished up the legal niceties r
egarding acquisition. Instead of abandoning that work, we decided to press on
and finish it.

2) The Biblical lists were a good (ie easy) set of lists to do first so that w
e could sorta learn a little bit about composition, etc. Better that Bill and
me sorta work the kinks out of list production on my personally favorite peri
od but rather niche for everybody else *before* we tackle something like LIR.
As Jon repeatedly sez, nobody wants these lists done "right" more than we do.
A year ago, I wouldn't have felt terribly comfortable handling something lik
e LIR, now, I'll be able to do it in my sleep.

3) We could take advantage of the fact that Bill's academic background is in t
his period.

4) We had a Bronze Age theme tourney at Hcon coming up that coincided nicely w
ith publication. We'd be stupid to overlook this nice marketing tie in.

Okay, I wrote up 5 LOTR army lists in, hmmmm, 4-5 days. I did them after I co
mpleted the first draft of NWW but before I started on FeudW. Quite frankly,
I wanted a break and so went with that. Thus, if overall list production "sli
ps" 5 days, I doubt anybody will notice. Honest, these lists took no time and
I wouldn't have been working on anything else during that time frame anyway.

Believe me, FW list production will not get in the way of the real project her
e, at least the real one for me. I wish nothing more than to quit my day job
and work full time on list production. It usually takes me two evenings to do
1 list. The actual list is done one evening, the notes the next. If the lis
t is complicated or the notes rather extensive, this can expand to three night
s, maybe more. Since I've started on this project, I've had a couple of perio
ds where I've been able to spend the better part of 10 days at a time spending
6 hours a day working on lists. Those are the times I might get 12 lists don
e. I don't see that happening until June of 2003. Otherwise, I plod along.

Bill, Jon and particularly my wife can attest to the single mindedness I have
on this project.

Hope this asuages any concern out there:)Smile:)
