Salutations, gentlefolk,
Sad news, forwarded from the Philadelphia Scinece Fiction Society's
email list:
<< L Sprague de Camp died earlier today (November 6). He would have been
93 later this month. His wife, Catherine Crook de Camp, died earlier
this year.
de Camp has been publishing since 1939 when "The Isolinguals" was
published. He has since published science fiction, fantasy, alternate
history, horror, poetry, history, historical fiction, etc. etc.
>>
I suppose many of you have read _An Elephant for Aristotle_ or _The Ancient
Engineers_, or perhaps some of his other works.
I had the privlege of meeting him several times, once for a long (and,
unfortunately, fruitless) discussion of the copyright mess Fletcher Pratt's
works are in.
He was a learned man who wore his knowledge lightly, and a gentleman in the
best old-fashioned sense of the term. He shall be missed.
Yours, John Desmond - jafd26@...
