I am having problems reading posts that have partial paragraphs of the
6.53 rule. Most of these paragraphs have to do mainly with charging.
So I've taken the liberty to rewrite the 6.53 paragraph which must
also take into account other kinds of moves.
Jon, I must emphasize that I am not trying to step on your toes, I am
trying to solve delima with-out talking about what the current rules
mean, because I believe the current rule can be writen better and
address all points mentioned.
Here goes,
---
6.53 Gaps:
A Gap is defined as the space existing between any two points
comprising part of: units of the same army, terrain features, or table
edge.
The minimum passable Gap for marches, tactical moves, and combat
result moves is 60paces: (`passable' meaning that it is possible for a
unit to move through such Gap without interpenetrating a intervening
body (6.52) or crossing terrain features). Movement through a Gap is
further restricted as follows:
- Charges, follow-ups or pursuit moves can not pass through a Gap of
less than 120 paces if one of the points defining the Gap belongs to
unbroken enemy not in Hand to Hand combat from a previous bound.
However, if the target body of a charge, follow-up or a pursuit move
defines one of the points of the gap then it may be frontally charged,
followed up, or pursued.
- Gaps to be routed through must be a minimum of 120 paces. No
deviation or free drop backs are allowed for routs if the Gap is less
than 120paces.
A unit whose frontage is wider than the Gap to be passed may freely
drop back elements to pass through the Gap. The number of elements
dropped back can not exceed the minimum number necessary to pass the
gap.

Again, I am not trying to step on anyone's toes (as this may be a
sensitive topic), I am merely trying to p

I have added with () and deleted with {}. Most of this rule is as we
discussed in the kitchen Saturday. The reason I never answered this
before is that I thought you merely COPIED the text of 6.53, something
I was not interested in.

(Bodies who have a frontal charge declared against them do not count
for gap determination for units declaring charges against them. Units
being pursued or followed up do not count for gap determination for
units doing the pursuit or follow up)

This is very close to what we discussed at River City Rumble. It is
very close to our agreement in the kitchen at my house as well.
