Can a unit that has been halted change formation during approaches?

So a unit of 6E RgD MI LTS/Sh is shot to a halt. In the next bound
can they go from a 3E frontages to a 1 or 2 E frontage?
No.

OK, now my follow up question is more difficult Jon.

How do I get a similar unit from behind such a unit? I can counter
into a smaller frontage I understand, but I'm just wondering if there
is any recourse for the halted unit other than to stand and take
another hit from shooting?

That's a tactics question and I'd have to see a diagram in any case.

Not with the halted unit.

If you choose to halt, there is no voluntary movement by that body until the end
of the following bound. 11.1
