Here's my after-action on the NICT, with some included impressions from other
events. My apologies in advance to those of you who will think this is all so
very obvious....you can just skip this mail instead of telling us how you
figured this all out years ago. :)

1. Practice. I played a lot of Warrior over the last year, but it was all
Fast, teaching games or Fantasy Warrior playtest. I didn't play any 1600 point
games and it showed. I intend to change that. Someone else can do the teaching
and recruiting this year - I'm in training as of now...lol

2. It's the foot, stupid. There are knights and elephants out there to be
sure, but the games were won by the foot. In my case, the Han give me some
great stuff, but if you find yourself in hot water and need to skirmish away
from some celtiberians, who in the Han army is doing the killing? Silla, 100YW
LBmen, Berber, Khmer, H+B Carthaginians - see a trend?... Look for shielded
foot with missiles or two weapons in the lists in the top third of the NICT.
You want to win, you have to win this fight, and K or El alone won't do it.

3. Foot Armor. Tourney-wise, all HI units are not cost effective. There are
too many HI/MI (or LHI/LMI) combos out there to be forced to use all HI/LHI
units. There were some cases where my LHI did better because they were all
armored, but not enough to justify the number of units I was ceding to the
enemy. Fear not, Romans - your list rules will mitigate..lol As for the Han -
they'll be back out with Oriental Warrior....I am taking a break for something
more western...

4. Pinning the other guy with small LI. Using small LI to pin the other guy
through forced marching is, of course, a great idea and not a surprise - I have
done it many times. However, I was overly concerned about my ability to get
these guys out of danger so that they did not contribute to demoralization. I
saw some great tactics in getting them back out of harm's way. I paid
attention, Tim. :)

Thanks for some great games, guys. I'll see you in the 25mm Teams in March.

Jon
