Last night I got in two games with a fellow Warrior player new to the
area named Ambrose. We fought two excllent games of historical
enemies (Med. Vietman and Southern Dynasty Chinese). Both games
netted the exact same result in that the Vietmanese couldn't buy a
victory. We each played each army once and used the exact same
terrain. Terrain was a brush on each flank and a wood on one flank
closer to the Chinese side of the table. The center was open. The
armies were built to around 1000pts from the FW lists as a core.
In the first game, I took the VC. As a grand scheme my army of all
LMI, LI, and 2 El was deployed with the elephants, CNC, IrgA axemen
and two 18 man LMI B units in the center; all the IrgC LMI was on the
flanks in an effort to use the terrain. First mistake was the intake
of 3 beers before Ambrose arived so I could remember these IrgC guys
were front rank 2HCW and not JLS, thus I penalized myself right
away. Second mistake was not placing the LI forced marched to the
center in order to allow me to march more quickly into the terrain.
So be it, I think, my B and El will disorder and shoot away his
mounted and B. Second turn the El are shot disorded from outside
charge range and fail the waver. Now my center looks like a horde of
sheildless LMI B. Without going into too many details, Ambrose sends
his CNC up to rout one LMI B unit on contact as I furiously try to
counter uneasy IrgC LMI outside 120p. The one bright moment comes
too late when my always rolling short IrgA unit rolls to the more
table while tired, so it gets meating in the center just in time to
vaporize with no real effect. My LI do well in shooting one LC unit
into near oblivion, but Ambrose saves their hid and thereby dening me
my only chance at points. Lessons learned: Do not bother to shoot
even shieldless SHC with less than 24 figures, and for God's sake
don't countercharge the SHC with your shieldless LMI B...
In game two, thinking now that I suck totally at Warrior, I take the
helm of the Chinese. Ambrose expertly places his LI dead center of
the board to delay my advance, but I get both 8 man LC B units out to
do their thing, and they hold half his army at 2 march bounds. In
the second bound I march the SHC and HC L/sh to my right flank to
come up behind the LC while my MI LTS/sh units deploy to screen the
LI and begin the slow pushing. On my right is a single 24 man LMI B
unit who are facing 3 LMI 2HCW/JLS/sh units screeming from the
brush. Calmly my Bow take aim fire roll up big and disoder the unit
who then halt. In the next bound I fire again, roll up and now they
VC fail the waver test. But I'm not done, so I shoot yet again and
they rout past the other units trying deparately to get out of the
way. One shakes. All the while Ambrose is busy in the center using
El to kill off one LC unit that is exausted from shooting, and he
moves the IrgA axemen to within striking distance of my poor MI
LTS/sh. On my right I've moved HC up to assist the other LC but fail
to charge when I had the best advantage thinking to continue the
shooting there. The battle end when my SHC CNC charged impetouosly
into his CNC (LMI JLS/sh) who stand, take 3 CPF and rout shaking half
the army. Ambrose's El fought the other SHC pushing them back,
disordering them and causing many waver, but the hapless SHC enjoy
the contest and eagarly pass waver after waver. Net result was much
as the first game. Lessons Learned: SHC without a sheild are truely
frightening lords of the battlefield, and I'm not contemplating these
later German lists. IRgC LMI armed with anything just don't dent
these guys if you can get them impetuous (well maybe SHK do them
better).

the 2HCW without the LB can't stand up. the VCong units were front
rank 2HCW/sh back rank JLS/sh, so 3@4 and 2@2 is it while the SHC hit
back with 6@5. This of course assumes no impetouos, no failed waver
test for the LMI. But this was a repeated theme last night, and as
you can imagine as shiedless in the next bound it was even worse for
the LMI in the followup (SHC is 4@7, LMI is 6@0). Ugly and the SHC
are still not tired until after the second bound of combat.

That should read SHK do them well and I am "now" comtemplating the
later Germans with the berger SHC.

I played three games against Jon Cleaves a couple of weeks ago, using my LIR
list with Armenian Allies against his Medieval Spanish. The Armenians have
shieldless EHC which can be upgraded the SHC, which is what I did.
They don’t last to Long against Knights, and they certainly don’t last long
against 2HCW/LB armed English Longbowmen. But that’s more my fault than
Jon’s, I came away with a lot of great lessons from those games.
