Jamie,
.
I have already had this discussion with Jon.
In WRG 7th, according to the 4 horsemen, 2 light bolt shooters on one base that
could fire never happened. You must be seeing sun spots if you have read this
option in 7th. I mean the part in pg 3 (figures on a base) where 7th allows 1 or
2 light bolt shooters on a base or pg 29 (shooting arcs) that allow a single
bolt shooter on a base to shoot all around. These sections, according to Jon,
do not mean that you get to both mount and shoot 2 bolt shooters on 1 base.
I suppose this means that if you had mounted 2 bolt shooters on one base under
WRG 7th, you would not be allowed to fire as there would be no provision under
the rules to fire. After all, it only specifically gives the option to fire if
there is a single bolt shooter on a cart. After all, one can not imply that the
rule means that if 1 can fire all round, then if there are 2 on the base, as is
allowed, they would fire normally, as in starlight ahead.
Also, any thought that pg 30 (shooting by rear ranks or over another body) that
allows "bolt shooters can shoot from a vehicle... over intervening troops who
are at least 40 paces distant from both them and their target" does not mean
what you might think it says.
Removing the option to double mount light bolt shooters, or to shoot them
overhead, is one of the major reasons that I have mostly quit playing Roman
armies under Warrior. Art was one of their major strengths and Warrior has
gutted it.
If I still seem a bit testy over this issue, its because I still am. Overall,
Warrior is a good system, but there are areas....

In the original game (TOG), I was allowed to base 1 or 2 light bolt shooters
per element or model. I was studying the LIR list looking for more stuff to
exploit and noticed that the artillery model lines didn't work the way they
used to work. Now the list permits 0 - 6 light bolt shooter models and any
can be on a cart. I can't field two units of four light bolt shooters on
two bases any more which is mildly annoying. Of course, 6 bolt shooters on
carts would be kind of amusing too.
1. Is the deletion of the option to double base light bolt shooters
deliberate? I even got out the rule book and looked on the yahoo web site
for clarifications and stuff, the option seems to have gone away completely.
I'm happy to play either way, but I don't want to rebase my double light
bolt shooters unless I have to. The fire density advantage to double basing
is very handy.
2. If deletion of the option was an oversight, may I suggest that the
solution for any and all lists be to add the option to add two crew per
model for non-animal or vehicle mounted light bolt shooters? I'm trying to
keep any global list clarifications as clean as possible and avoid getting
mixed up with bolt shooters on carts (Roman) or elephants (Khmer or Champa).
So an example using the LIR list might look like this
light bolt shooter, 2 RC crew @ 20
0 - 6
Extra to mount bolt shooter on cart @ 10
any
Extra to add two crew to non-animal, non-vehicle mounted light bolt shooter
@ 20 any
Thanks,
Jamie White
