I think most people have played the 1200 or 1250 type game. I know in
South Texas, the standard we used to play under was 1250 points.
That said, this was with 1250 points of 15mm figures on a standard 6'
x 4' table, using four terrain rolls each.
The question is ... how does the game play at 1200 points of 15mm on
the 4' x 4' table that will be used at Call to Arms?
Thanks in advance for all respondents ... g

This is how NASAMW has been playing the "mini" format for the better part of a
decade now. It plays like any other game. Okay, late medieval armies seem to
suffer because of 1200 points but I've played Burgundian Ordonnance well in this
format. The 4x4 table doesn't allow your teeeeny tiny knight army to feel like
it's lost in the godforsakeneasternplains of Colorado either. Of course if you
don't get your terrain rolls.......
I've never seen any preponderance of lists dominating this format either. Big
missile armies are usually countered by good infantry armies and EL armies tend
to be somewhat like late medieval armies in terms of cost vs size on the board.
The small table size does seem to penalize all cav armies but that's also not
often the case. You're able to pin with LC and then pick where you want to
attack, often overwhelmingly since there's simply not so much table to deal
with.
I'll be umping this and being the "odd" player. I intend on bringing AES, one
command. Oh yeah, one thing I've seen in this format is the single command
army.
FWIW. I love the 1200 pt 4x4 mini format--games are fast, still complex. Going
to a 6x4 table has it's fun as well, that's what we've been doing back east for
the last year, simply to see if it gains us anything in terms of more armies
participating.

Ambrose and I played 1000pts on a 4x4 area the other night and it
gave enough room, but then we also only used 2 terrain picks each.
The game played well, but only one side had any mounted including 2
LC B units. An all terrain army might be worth considering.
If you add a WW and some steep hills, then you might be in for a very
narrow game. LC will suffer if you are planning on the typical 15mm
flank sweep areas. Certainly wouldn't want to take Huns or
Skythians, then I wouldn't want to take them anyway :)
