Hi Folks,

Drepanon striking the front legs off a horse) and 2HCW seemed the
best"
"2HCW seemed the best" or more likely the warrior was skilled and
had guts...
This was a veteran who new Achaemenid horsemanship; unlike the
Hellenes horse, Achaemenid (at least the elite) cavalry is taught to
trample its victims, as the horse rears back its front legs become
vulnerable for a brief moment... That is when a more nimble (one
handed) skilled drepanon sickle sword can slice though the horse's
bunched up tendons and joints... I believe the event we are
discussing occurred in Cyprus or least one of larger eastern
Mediterranean islands.
All the art and carvings from the period seem to confirm the
single hand use.

Sincerely,

Craig

The incident is from Herodotus, and I think that the warrior was behind his
master when he chopped the legs from the persian generalīs horse. I think that
it was in Cyprus too.
