Alexander beat up the Persians. Big deal. Got his butt handed to him in
India. The point is alot fo "free" abilities are being given to the Macedonians
that they don't need.

Dave
Jon. I am glad you are happy with this. I guess you own a Macedonian army. Or
maybe you should try to fight one of them a few times.

Even competently led it can still be beaten, the special rules do not
make them supermen. I've seen Imperial Warrior and other lists from
other books beat them.
Mike
or Marcus Turnus, Roman Warlord
Yes Yes Yes They can still be beaten. I just want them to pay for some of the
free magic.

Derek, I am *very* happy with them. Yes, I lost to this army in the NICT,
but I lost to Dave Markowitz, not the little lead guys - who are
inanimate....lol
Why a player with his abilities needs all these gimicks is another matter all
to itself. :)
The intimation that I made these list rules to improve an army I own is
heinous. I will assume you are joking.
Just kidding. Yes. But I am glad I own Han. :)
The objective of list rules is to use some list-personalized flavor to ensure
lists act the way they should IN PERIOD. We are making an historical game.
How a list performs in an open is interesting, but not the driver of anything.
Dave has the right of it. No matter what we do, some armies will perform
better in opens than others. If those belong to guys like Alex, Genghis,
Caesar,
Shapur and Henry, well, that's ok....
Why not weaked the Persians like you did the poor Samnites? Did the
Macedonians really need a whole list of free abilites to beat the Persains list?
I
don't think so.
I am surprised that you'd complain so much. As a guy who takes lists for
their supposed winnability in opens instead of their history, I'd think you'd be
keeping your opinion quiet about Macedonians and painting the hell out of them
for next year. Or is this whole thread really all about last year and not
next? ;)
The last army I won a tournament with was Anglo Norman. The tournament before
that was Middle Period Assyrians. I run armies that have troop types I like.
That is were the winnability comes from. I got into ancients because I like
Swiss. Played them for three years and sold them. Now you did "help" them out.
They needed it.
I own two Macedonian armies. I have won two NICT with them before they got
all this help they needed so badly. I just can't see that they needed all these
rules. Especially for free.
As for your last shot. I never played Dave this year. I would have liked to.
I have beaten him the last two or three times I have played him. So no it has
nothing to do about last year.
Now for next year. That is another story.

OK Dave, sending e-mails from the beach? must be rough! here I am
working toward my second retirement.
After beating Henry V's boys, some Spartans, and Hannibal the other
weekend, I am sure Aetius will allow the Legions (w/Hun allies) to
advance into Macedonia! It is busy work policing the frontier!
See you that Monday night!

Ok, I will try and explain this one more time. Who won what where in an open
tourney has no impact on what lists get what list rules. They are designed to
make an army and its troop types perform the way they did vs all of their
historical opponents. We don't design list rules to 'help out' an army at the
NICT. Companions, for example, did some things historically that cannot be
replicated by simply being HC, L. Same with Legionaires having capabilities
beyond mere HI HTW. Etc, etc.
You guys want to continue to bat this around, ok by me. I might suggest there
is better use of bandwidth, however...
