In the game being played it is my seleucid v mike oakes nicophorian
byzantines , most of the LI are in 2 element units. I have two LI S, mike has a
multitude of LI B. Mine headed off towards his ART to absorb their shooting his
 were
largely used as forced marchers to take space. Most of his are now shaken
having been despatched by either my LC or peltasts.

I am fielding three two element LC jls and also the 6 element camel brigade
is holding my right flank against superior mounted points. One of my LC has
been routed by his sub general but now his sub general is about to be charged
 from two directions.
as he is well ahead of his main battle line. Victory looks
 imminent.

We use our LI like you, generally to delay or hold ground or absorb shooting.

If you run down my lights either you have exposed your units or wasted
 fatigues in general.

That is our general intention, but sometimes the lights will have their
little battle first and the losers end up routing through the main battle line.
 All
this takes time. Even worse sometimes the lights will just shoot each other
for a few bounds, if neither of us is perfectly happy with the match ups
 behind.

This is exactly how we play, checking rules, etc. I am hoping to build the
group back up to the one that gave the UK champions of the day a fright at the
 worlds at Derby.

				| Mark, what army are you running? Typically I will run down any and
all LI I can get within charge reach, so unless we are talking 100s
of elements worth of B armed LI I'll run it off by bound 3. So in
open tournament format, as most other gamers will also chop up LI,
you don't see many heavy LI based armies. That being said, I do want
 to run Phokan sometime...

In my last touranment, I had a single LI unit. Depending on the list
it was either LI B, or LI JLS/sh front rank B back rank. It served
only to stop the enemy from advancing by marches. Otherwise I wanted
nothing more than to have it evade back behind my line.

If you are playing for 5 hours, this is a good pace for 1600pt if you
are looking and discussing everything up as you go. I think the
worst mistake we make when teaching is to run through the numbers
like a machine without directing the learner to the proper portion of
the charge from which we are reciting. This is just an aside, but
the only way to learn properly is to loose with understanding not
 just loose.

 Sounds like great fun
