I was browsing the Fast Warrior lists, looking for neat armies. One thing
about FW is the fact that you can build an army you always wanted to try,
but did not want to blow a bundle on. To me, DBA is too abstract, has too
few figures, has no soul, etc. FW seems to fit the bill for a small, yet
complex enough game.
Has anyone tried to contact manufacturers about "FW PAcks"? Newline makes
"WAB 1000pt armies" and 2000 pt armies. Quite a few 15mm mfgrs make DBA
armies. A marketing advantage for FW armies, is that the composition is
fixed, so one can buy an Early Carthaginian army, and know exactly what
figures you are going to get. Hopefully, the pack would have figures at a
discount.
This would be a natural for the Sales Ho, I would think. Pre-packaged
Irregular FW armies? At last, an excuse to get those Burmese!
Has anyone tried to encourage other distributors, such as Wargames to try
this?

>See Tom McMillen's excellent post on this. It's nice to see we got
*something* right:)SmileSmile Actually, that remains to be seen in terms of
balance. It appears that within period, for the most part, I got the
balance okay on armies. Out of period gaming remains anybody's guess.

>I might add that at least from playtesting, many armies that "suck" at
1200+ points do quite well in FW. Case in point, the good old hapless
Camillan/Polybian Romans vs Seleucids. At 1200+, no game unless the
players are at vastly different skill levels. We found at FW size, the
Romans were slapping the Seleucids around just like they did
historically.

>This has certainly come up during high level FHE meetings:)SmileSmile The
Sales Ho has this one for action. I certainly expect at least Irregular
figures to have FW army packs:)Smile:)

John

Jake already has the mission to get companies to make FW Army Packs. It is a
great idea.

You know that Old Glory has made army packs for nobody yet. It would be an
interesting challenge to get them to make FW packs in 25mm. Could be a good
sedgeway into introducing more guys to 25mm, and may be easier for this
particular manufacturer because the armies are so absolutely specific. There
may be room for some kind of strategic alliance there as well between FHE and
OG. Just my ol marketing side kicking in.

We have discussed this with Wargames (for Essex figures) and with Silver
Eagle (for Irregular Miniatures). I can say that Silver Eagle will be
putting out a line of FW armies, hopefully by Historicon. Wargames is still
looking at the situation.

You would not believe the hassles I had to deal with. The discussion was
quite boisterous at times. :)

So, Jake, how did the discussion with Silver Eagle go, exactly? Was there any
resistance? :)
