Yeah, all those things Mark said!

This list goes on an on.

Dark Ages. I have a 25mm Anglo-Danish army with figure types that worked just
perfectly for the First Crusade. Or Vikings, or Normans, etc.

Mongols. Get a horde of generic Mongol cav and you can play about a bazillion
armies with it to include some of the Russian lists with EHK. Ilkhanid, hell,
you can even use the LC in something like an Islamic Persian list.

Pike Trash. As Mark mentioned, paint up one core pike army and you have loads
of armies to choose from. Paint up some Romans and you've got a Marian list
with allies or a Pontic list with imitation legionaries.

Even some of the Biblical lists are morphable although you hafta pick your
armies a bit more carefully in that case.
