First, a couple questions and points in case people are too busy to read this
whole e-mail.

This one came up more than once. At what point does one need to tell an opponent
whether a unit is regular or irregular? Locally, I have never had anyone ask me
until a unit has done things only a regular unit can and I seem to recall more
than one person telling me I don't have to say anything until something like
that occurs. Is there an unwritten rule that during setup (or whenever) I must
tell the opponent? Should my figures be a mishmash of clothing to better
represent irregular troops? I have no preference on declaring regular/irregular,
I just would like to see everyone doing the same thing.

When you outscout your opponent, do you still need to record forced marches on
your map? (not that my rendition of the Condotta ever outscouts anyone!)

When charging a skirmishing unit, shouldn't they always evade unless having
declared a charge of it's own? I am not talking about recieving impetous charges
here. I just saw some questionable charge reponses that I didn't feel like
arguing.

Ok, with that out of the way, I just wanted to thank everyone I played and met
at Historicon. I really had a blast (even if my dice were ice cold). Bill Low
was a very pleasant and personable gentleman throughout the tournament and a fun
opponent (and didn't even laugh at my down 4 Moog roll!). Alex Vaeth was another
opponent that I had a particularly fun time playing. He was very personable and
even gave me an excellent tip on how to handle barbarian hordes better. John?
from Texas. Also a newer Warrior player I met in the theme. Another very nice
guy. Also many thanks to Jevon, Greek and Little Greek. John Becker (aka up3)
and especially Ed for cutting me a deal on my first 25mm army. I would also like
to thank Kelly for recruiting me and Charles Yaw for playing with me twice a
week all summer and Mike Lewis, John Cleaves and Todd Schneider for playing with
me also.

In my reread, that sounds like I won some award, but I really just wanted to
thank all those people for making Warrior a fun and interesting hobby.

On another note, I was a little concerned about some sloppy play, like holding
the corner of your base when you wheel... maybe someone more experienced could
write up a tournament etiquette piece sometime.

One rule I think could use a look is the option to go short for broken units. I
think that puts decision-making back in the hands of someone who shouldn't have
a choice. Just my opinion :)

Excellent write-up Ewan. I really like to read about the experiences of other
players. I wish I could get those Warrior files to load for me.

Anyway, Historicon was a blast for me and I learned quite a few new strategies
and tactics from the great players I met. I am really looking forward to next
year and any other tournaments I get to play. Thanks again to all for the fun
time and the free beers.
