Larry, I agree with pretty much everything you wrote here. My plan is to
take these concerns up with the EC directly at Cold Wars, face to face.

I have no problem with discussing the Society here, but I'd like to keep that
discussion elevated - as in:

What do players want from their ancients society?

What would a prospective candidate for presidency of the society, such as
yourself, have as a plan to serve the membership?

I want to keep us away from the error of simply bashing past bad decisions.

I would also ask that we keep NASAMW in the subject line, so people who have
no interest know to delete this thread.

Thanks!

Jon

Boyd, I am allowing that discussion to continue along the lines I indicated.
If guys want to talk about what they would like to see happen with the
Society in a POSITIVE tone, I will not stop it. This is essentially what
happens
whenever guys here talk tourney format at the big cons, as that is currently a
NASAMW thing and not an FHE thing.

I won't allow the thread to go into NASAMW (or anyone else) bashing.

I do not agree with you that NASAMW politics killed 7th. 7th's lack of
support, the kind of behavior that was allowed to go on internally among its
players and the advent of a new set of choices killed 7th. Our strategy has to
do
with supporting our players to the absolute max, helping to encourage the best
sportsmanship in the hobby and continually improving to make our line the best
choice. NASAMW is neither part of that business strategy nor seen as a
detriment to it - they are separate. Folks are free to link them in their mind
if
they choose, but that does not make them linked.

It was NASAMW, by the way, that supported *us* during the time of our
playtesting and development - something I will not forget.

You can delete or have your machine screen posts with NASAMW in the subject
line - which is what I strongly recommend to anyone who is disinterested in a
thread. The only guy who has to read every post is me, and I cannot imagine
why anyone else would do it....lol

Jon,
<tone is serious but not aggressive>
I for one don't want to read about politics. Our hobby is extremely
small and fairly expensive. We tend to be exclusionary on both
counts, and growing the hobby is difficult enough as it is. Add to
this the bickering, whining, and general discontent some people bring
with them wherever they go, and we can only attempt to minimize the
damage that will insue. A tempest in a teapot should never be
addressed or given a larger stage.

Every time NASAMW goes through devisive leadership issues, membership
suffers. The decline of WRG 7th was directly related to exactly the
same sort of political wrangling and interpretative BS; the advent of
your FHE "Warrior" effort is all that save that great set of rules,
and in the long run kept me in the hobby completely.

One of the GREAT lures you have with Warrior is STABILITY. Sorry to
be the one to inform you, Jon, but your inspirational leadership is
not the major contributing factor to Warrior's success. It is rather
that you've made Warrior a better system than the alternatives,
better than TOG, and that you have stuck by your guns in order to win
in the long run. Warrior is my game of choice now for these
reasons. I'm sure many here will agree...we don't want to chaotic,
selfish, whiney world of DBM.

Any instability in NASAMW I would hate to see spill over into what
your accomplished detramentally. I am a member of NASAMW, and like
most members I join simply to get into tournaments. Politics should
be for another forum. This is my last blast on this topic.
