Hmm... Mike,
Since I kind of was the person that threw the chum in the water regarding
this topic, I'd like to redirect back to my question to Mike which was why he
felt DBM is more historical. Mike, I certainly don't see you as "bashing"
Warrior. Now, more than ever with Jon and Scott at the helm, I find Warrior to
be the most intriquing and thought provoking set of Wargames rules I've ever
encountered in my few years of gaming(27 or so years). I find myself at work (or
in the car, at home, etc. . .) thinking about new twists and ways to improve my
chances of victory. I have played DBM and have found it to leave me somehow
wanting more. Certainly it is a game that has many adherents who love it for
it's simplicity. Additionally, it has many very excellent points that make for a
bit more realism. Admittedly, I've never agreed with the climate issue when it
comes to terrain placement preferring the DBM agression factor, but again that's
a Barker carryover that one day may be
changed(*note:this is a insignificant issue compared to the wonderful
improvements that have come about due to FHE). It comes down to this. The two
games play differently. One game offers vastly more options than the other but
that doesn't make it less historical.
Why do I play Warrior over DBM? First of all, I find it to be the most
challenging game of the genre and vastly more fun because of it's depth.
Secondly because the people that are writing the rules are committed to players
to make the most fun, challenging, and historically accurate set of rules in the
world. I think back to how quickly Jon, Scott, Bill, and Jake respond to
questions about rules and history and though I may not always be satisfied by
the result, I know that they care enough about the rules and gamers to give no
less than one hundred percent. Nowhere other than perhaps Terry Gore's website
will you get such personal responses from a company's owners.
As far as who is the most historical, I doubt that anyone will agree on that.
Best customer service definately goes to FHE.

PS It is beyond me why hoplites armed as spears in DBM can't get the quick kill
when charged by Persian Cav who are armed with hand to hand weapons. I guarantee
that when this happens in Warrior, The Persians will wish they were home with
mommy instead of dining in hades with their dead buddies.

Just a reminder (and for the last time...)
I FAR FAR believe that Warrior is a superior game, and I VASTLY prefer it
over DBM or variations due to its significantly greater tactical and
intellectual depth. I have NO PLANS at this time (and as far as I can tell
EVER) to abandon Warrior.
In other words, I am NOT BASHING IT, but responding to a question somebody
asked of me.
As to realism, the fact that we play on a table with physical "edges of the
world" does far more to decrease the historical accuracy of any game than
any rules discussions assuming that the game at least attempts to simulate
reality.

opinion is as valid as anyone's...) or to cast anyone else's game system in
a negative light. Other than that - carry on!
