Hi All

This is the other option I have for the tournament I am attending and
I have tried to use your advice on the army structure of my WOTR list
in creating this. All advice welcome

Aztec 1521AD

Spanish

1 Spanish C-in-C HK L, Sh with PA std + 2 Reg A HK L, Sh = 158pts
+ 1 El Spanish Lancers Reg A HK L, Sh = 48pts

3 El Spanish Infantry Reg A LHI 1HCW, HG, Sh, RCF = 118pts

3 El Spanish Infantry Reg A LHI 1HCW, HG, Sh, RCF = 118pts

2 El Spanish Infantry Reg A LHI 1HCW, HG, Sh, RCF = 82pts

2 El Spanish Wheeled Guns Reg A crew, RCF = 106pts

Tlaxcallan Allies

1 Ally-Gen LMI 1HCW, B, P Std + 3 Reg A LMI 1HCW, B, Sh = 106pts
+5 El Suit Wearer Knights Reg B LMI 1HCW, B, Sh = 120pts

1 Ally-Gen LMI 1HCW, B, P Std + 3 Reg A LMI 1HCW, B, Sh = 106pts
+5 El Warriors Reg C LMI 1HCW, B, Sh = 100pts

6 El Warriors Reg C LMI 1HCW, B, Sh, RCF = 130pts

4 El Warriors Reg C LMI 1HCW, B, Sh, RCF = 90pts

6 El Novice Warriors Reg D LMI 1HCW, B, Sh, RCF = 106pts

6 El Otomis Subject Warriors Irr A LMI 2HCW, B, Sh, ICF = 133pts

5 El Peasants Irr C LI B, ICF = 45pts

5 El Peasants Irr C LI B, ICF = 45pts

5 El Peasants Irr C LI B, ICF = 45pts

Army Total: 1650pts
Units: 14

What does everyone think?

Regards

Michael

I play this list and enjoy it immensely.

<<3 El Spanish Infantry Reg A LHI 1HCW, HG, Sh, RCF = 118pts>>

As Ewan has pointed out, 3E Regular units are very unwieldy. I take these as 4E
and the back rank has CB, vice HG.

<<2 El Spanish Wheeled Guns Reg A crew, RCF = 106pts>>

These are fun. They hit like bombards but don't have to wait two bounds to
shoot after thay move. Problem - only 2E - hard to emply unless you really work
at it.

Tlaxcallan Allies

Note when you make Cortez the CINC that you halve the minima for the Tlax
allies..

<<6 El Warriors Reg C LMI 1HCW, B, Sh, RCF = 130pts>>

I take these as D in the front rank and B in the back. You shoot all figures
but shielded at 80p....

<<6 El Otomis Subject Warriors Irr A LMI 2HCW, B, Sh, ICF = 133pts>>

I take these in 2E units. Again, D front, B back rank.

Jon

I, like Ewan, generally recoil from expensive foot. But I have been playing
a LOT with such units lately and with some success. he's right that you
*must* make them worth it by killing at least their own weight in enemy. Also,
given that they have a high density of points per square inch on the playing
surface, they need the right kind of support.
But, on the other hand, they can be as or more useful as their weight in
Knights or elephants and should be viewed in the same way.

Those spanish foot are superb at a lot of things and are able to win a game
all by themselves if properly used. You have to support them correctly and
ensure they get the matchups you need - which is true of anything.

This is a cute list, but the Spanish are *ultra*-expensive. Beware.

From memory, I believe that the Spanish get another K unit available, and
you should take it.

3E is better than 5E for HG, but still potentially awkward. Jon's use of
CB is likely correct.

When buying units, think about what they can kill. What 120+ points of
any opponent is one of these units targetted at?

I'd minimise Spanish foot.

Incidentally, the wheeled guns are very good artillery.

You don't need more than one allied general. Regular troops, not many
charges to prompt = no need for more commands. And the CinC can prompt
anyone.

Take some more of thee with points saved from Spanish if any are left.

> 6 El Otomis Subject Warriors Irr A LMI 2HCW, B, Sh, ICF = 133pts

These should be in 2E units, for use as semi-guided missiles either into
flanks or to explode before causing any wavers.

Make regular if possible (in which case 4E units) or if compulsory irregs,
put in 10E or 12E units.

I would like to point out that I've seen this army used in 1200 points and am
very impressed. It seems very flexible and can readily deal with all comers.
These are very good comments and I myself have flagged them for future
consideration as I plan to comb ebay for Aztec figures to use in such a list.
