I will take you up on the NICT invite.
I hope not to embarrass us too much.

Gentlemen
T set my discussion straight, I have never fully supported the two day NICT
format, as my biggest reservation was exclusion, however I have no doubt that
Scott is doing the best he knows how for the society.
I am obviously very disapointed not to be able to play in Nationals, however,
I am also very interested in if it has any other effect on attendance. In the
past few years I have either gained or suffered from the 3 round format, as I
ahve been close a couple of times, so cannot complain either way.
I know that of the three historicon tournaments the ones I enjoy most are the
mini and theme, Nationals is too much like work to be only relaxation. The
mini and the theme are the reason I play, Nationals is more competition and less
about playing for fun. So if this format survioves I will get less out of the
cons.
In any case to summarise, I want to re-emphasize that I have no doubts about
Scott's motives, but wanted to communicate my availability issue as soon as
possible, and feel we need to watch how the attendance turns out. A lower
turnout in my mind will advocate a return to a one day turnout, a higher turnout
the
opposiute.
All the best
Robert

Speaking as someone who lost in the first two rounds the NICT, I was actually
grateful not to have to play further just to provide points for my opponents.
It opened up the options for other games.
I like the new system.
And next year, I am going to win...

I forgot to comment on this. Yes, I think that the system being
trialed was a good thing. I felt very guilty about knocking out Bill
Low after our second game - but there is no-one ever more gracious
than he - but that was the only downside; it definitely felt as though
morer of the top contenders played one another, which has to be a good
thing.
