Jon,
Two disagreements came up in our tournament.
Are Sumerian Onagers disorded by Camels and Elephants?
2 ranks of close order LB firing at long range. Do they count as 4
figures or 3?

Thanks.

Normally I wouldn't intrude here but since Jon's gone and this
particular issue is near and dear to my heart, I will.

Short answer is YES, they are. I've been telling people this for
more than a decade now. Sigh.

Note in BW how the Sumerian chariots are *listed*: they are four
HORSE chariots. The notes simply elaborate on what they were and
nowhere do the notes say that onagers are treated other than the
horses that they are shown in the line item of the list. That use
of the term "four HORSE" in these lists was deliberately done so as
to avoid any confusion about this. I guess we were too subtle:)Smile:)

The answer to you other question will hafta wait until Jon gets back.

scott

Our other intrepretation of the 4 "onager" chariot was that it fought as 2
crew only, no horses. <grin>

From 8.4:
"Figures shooting at half effect count as half the actual number rounded up.
They are halved twice if rear ranks of a body in skirmish formation (6.45) at
long range. They are not halved twice if shooting both overhead (8.7) and at
long range, since both these have the same effect of making a high trajectory
necessary."

So, 2 ranks of close (or regular loose) order LB shoot 4.
