Knights
Regular Longbowmen (LHI/LMI)
Two really small units of horse archers
One unit of good impetuous foot
Now, what army would fit that bill, I wonder?......

This is not really a Warrior question, but I thought some members might want
to give an opinion.
I have never really played 25mm scale before, but have over the years
painted a bunch of really pretty 25mm knights. Lately the guys in our area
are getting into the 25mm scale and I thought to fill out some sort of
medieval army.
I have played many knight based armies in the 15mm scale, and thought I had
died and gone to heaven when the lance and a half rule and crossbow short
range rule went into effect. In the past I had played them for painting
purposes, but now of course these armies are quite formidable.
My question has to do with what various players feel is the better
supporting cast to the knights in the 25mm scale and why. It would seem
(this is an opinion based on no 25mm experience) that there is a choice to
be made between an elite supporting cast, a super inexpensive static
defense, skirmishing LMI, or terrain control troops. It just doesn't seem to
me that given the 25mm scale, the horse archer supporting cast would be
effective like it is in 15mm, nor does it seem that given both scale and the
1/2 demoralization rule, that knights mixed with an supporting cast of
mostly LI would be that effective. This of course could be wrong
conclusions.
At any rate, if you have any opinions on this topic, please feel free to
post or if you would rather, email me off line at;

I would very much like to put some information taken from experienced 25mm
medieval players with my own 15mm experience before committing to painting a
bunch of lead.
Thank you for your time ... Greg

Check out the NASAMW version of Feudal French (list #137?)! Front
rank IrrA EHK, back rank IrrB HK. Sure they're not super heavies but
when they roll up a "break" beats "a cause of unease" any day of the
week. Then, add LI screens and the mandatory 16 MI, JLS & sh, and
you have a solid core of deadly shock troops. Beyond that you get
scads of Genoese and French xbows to the hearts content. Just watch
out for elephants. Despite what the numerical probabilities say,
it's not pretty.

LHI Crossbow work very well with Knights. Especially if they are Reg (I use
Reg C). They guys up here can vouch for how much they hate them. 120p at 2
full ranks is brutal. Thats 8 Xbow per element of frontage. Wipes most
horse, and can give most Inf cause to reconsider as well. They can go in
brush and actually have a small amount of resistance to HTH (mostly due to
support shooting). The other good supporters in my army are a sprinkling of
Reg C HI LTS+Sh. They are good for area control and closure on Knight
slowed opponents. The rest of my army is LMI B, and they are hit or miss.
If they hit - OUCH to you. If they miss - they die screaming like little
girls.
