Don't laugh.
Since I picked up an Alexander the Great figure (mounted) at Historicon, I
want to paint it. However, I've round into some colour questions.
I remember Bucephalus as being black, and Alexander with golden hair.
Unfortunately the Alexander Mosaic shows Alexander with brown hair and
Bucephalus as a chestnut/brown horse. I've found historical references that
seem to confirm that Alexander had golden/blond hair but have had no luck
with Bucephalus. A friend mentioned that Arrian gives the colour but can't
remember what it was, and I haven't been able to find a copy of Arrian to
confirm.
Does anybody know what colour Bucephalus should be, hopefully with
historical documentation?

Alexander had golden/blonde/light brown hair, so don't be confused by the
mosaic. Greek blond is different that Swedish blonde. Bucephalos was black
with white face markings. I'll try to find the reference for you.
Meanwhile, i assume you're talking about the 25mm Navigator fig, right?
For 15mm, I took an Essex Bactrian unhelmeted companion fig, cut off his
bow case, and made him a sword by trimming, smashing, and sculpting his
tin lance. This is the best 15mm facsimile I found, unless you use the
Essex MPA Macedonian Command pack and paint up the cuirassed and helmeted
general that looks the most like Alex (not the one with the drooping cloak
that looks pensive--that one, I've always thought, should be Antigonos
Gonatas, the only philosopher king among the successors, and I've painted
him as such).

It is the 25mm Navigator figure (not the best, but it's available). I
painted one years ago for somebody from some company that no longer exists
and have had this urge to do another one.
Thanks
