Well John, I am CONVINCED that Scott's first thought is "What does
Chris Damour NOT like? I need to require lots of that in the
list." <<grin>>
I evidently am having my time in the sun. Even someone who I
do not recall ever meeting (Patrick <cuan@...>) mentioned me in his
email!

Chris,
This is definitely your time to shine. I bet your name is mentioned in many
circles now because of your blatant disregard for testing waver.
I personally cringe at the thought of testing waiver and have yet to meet
someone that not only just doesn't care about testing waver, but then builds
an army around it.
This past weekend, Don and I had a loooong line of troops in battle. I
rolled up 5 on 2 battles, he rolled up 3 on one battle. The one he rolled
up broke my two units, and by the time the dust settled I had one unit left
in the whole line unshaken, AND This was with A and C class troops.
(needless to say, I got some extra painting time that day)
This is not a complaint, I'm just lamenting. Maybe I need follow you to the
dark side and just downgrade all the troops possible to D's.
Question, do you at least try and roll for some difficult terrain, or do you
just prefer open ground? :)
It would definitely be a pleasure meeting you and many of the people on this
list. I anyone is flying through DFW Airport on the weekend, we'll see
about getting a game going if you'all stay the night; or hell, we can play
some fast warrior during a lay-over.

The very heart and soul of any army is its huge blocks of 'D' class troops!
My Sassanid Persians were never defeated and it had a lot less to do with
all the brightly colored shiny EHC/SHC than it did with the grotty levy
spearmen with their trusty LTS,SH... oh, and the Elephants! : )
How to build a Warrior Army:
Step One: Buy the CinC and bodyguard.
Step Two: Max out the number of elements of 'D' class troops you can buy.
Step Three: Max out the number of elements of EL you can buy.
Step Four: Calculate how many points you have left for 'lesser troops' and
SGs.
Best thing to hear the other guy say before a game starts: 'Damn thats a lot
of Elephants!'

This system (above) has never worked for me. The more
D troops I put on the table, the faster I loose the
game. As I now am using Normans (my only army), below
is how I've always gamed them. If anyone has a better
idea, let me know.
An alternative building of a Warrior Army, or Why
Normans are closer order foot with mobile missile
launchers:
1. Buy CNC & 5 IrrgA HC
2. Buy every SG possible with IrrgA HC
3. Give each SG only himself and 5 HC
4. Buy 3 large blocks of HI/MI J/sh (I prefer 6E) and
place on one side opposite enemy mounted/archers--for
orbing .
5. Buy any available LI & LMI with B, CB, or SS and
place in front of HC
6. Roll up on all HC encounters.
7. Buy two small LC (4E) units to guard HC flank.
Put the close order on one side of the board, then any
LMI B. Then line all HC up across from anything but
El. Put LI in front of HC. Move forward. Let LI
fight mounted not in skirmish, roll to stand and
receive, rout or broken through, then next bound loose
the IrrgA missiles upon whatever charged. Roll at
least up 1 on combat (makes up 3). let HI/MI plod
forward or counter into orb. Use LC only to keep
enemy LC off the HC. Sacrifice all LI to enemy
mounted in attempt to disrupt line. Expend all HC as
Stalin's Organs type of salvo attack. If enemy
survives all HC attacks (8 for me including CNC), then
he wins.
boyd
next will be Maurikian Byzantine warfight system :)

6. Roll up on all HC encounters.
>Insert "troop type of choice" in place of "HC" and you pretty much sum
up my approach to the game. As Jon put it at Cold Wars "you're Napoleon
when you're rolling up" or something to that effect.
