I am looking at piecing together some very small cheap
Warrior armies to use with the "Rise of the Roman Republic"
game by GMT in a Pyrrhus-invades-Italy mini-Warrior campaign
I hope to use this to interest a few new Warrior prospects
Ahhh... the best laid plans... wonder if this will go anywhere...
First I am going to test how the armies fight each other
Heck this is the fun part anyway
Given the current lists and the time until Classical Warrior
I have used Fast Warrior instead as a better starting point
Here is how I came up with some Romans
Started with the Fast Warrior lists (#56 & #65)
Made the Samnites into the Roman "ala sociorum"
NOTE: a lot of Roman players might use
Samnite figs (great looking Italian allies) for these
ALTHOUGH not necessarily historical (?)
especially in this period would still be Latin ala (?)
so okay we are out of period by 75-100 years (?)
but gives a bit of variety anyway so might be more fun
comments on this item particularly?
116 figs (12 cav + 104 inf)
16u @928
Camillan Romans (8u @537):
1x CinC (no std) 2E Reg B HC JLS,Sh @155
2x Rorarii 4E Reg C LI JLS,Sh @42
*2x Hastati 2E Reg C HI HTW,Sh @58
*2x Princepi 2E Reg C HI LTS,Sh @58
*1x Triari 2E Reg B HI LTS,Sh @66
*-these use the Fast Warrior Roman list rules
Samnite Ala (8u @391):
1x Sub-general (no std) 2E Reg B HC JLS,Sh @105
2x Skirmishers 2E Reg C LI JLS,Sh @26
4x Infantry 2E Reg C LMI JLS,Sh @42
1x Elite Infantry 2E Reg B LHI JLS,Sh @66
So for the classic SPQR deployment
The Roman foot in lines as LI, HTW and C class LTS
The Samnite foot would also split into lines
(On the flanks of the corresponding Roman foot)
The Reg B foot, both kinds, in a fourth line as a reserve
The Samnite horse on one flank, Roman horse on the other
With the number of units, and the classic deployment
both the Romans and the Samnites get another sub-general
from within the existing units (unless using a CinC staff)
(commands of 1u & 7u Romans, 3u & 5u Samnites)
Not sure how just yet
Now its time to start on the corresponding Pyrrhic army
(beginning with Fast Warrior list #66)
Any thoughts before I begin on how to expand on the Pyrrhics to match?
