Scott and/or Jon,

I apologize in advance for the length of these questions. They would
probably take 30 seconds to ask and get an answer to in person.

I would appreciate some clarification on the following line found in
the front of the list books:

Generals' elements that are part of a body of troops similarly armed
count toward any fractional ratios listed for that particular troop
type.

Here are some examples with questions (examples are not guaranteed to
make sense from an actual use perspective, they are just here to ask
questions):

Example 1: Avar List (DAW 14), CinC

CinC is purchased as HC
On separate line, it is possible to upgrade CinC and/or Sub-generals to
EHC (any may be upgraded)

Avar nobles are purchased as HC (minimum of 4 elements must be bought)
Separate line requires one-half to all nobles to be upgraded to EHC

I buy 5 nobles and put them in the same body as the CinC. They all
start out as HC.

Question: According to the rule above, it seems I am required to
upgrade 3 of them, since that is one-half of the elements. My guess is
that I would have to upgrade at least 3 (although any 3 would suffice).

Alternative situation: Let's say instead of the nobles being upgraded
as one-half to all, that instead they are upgraded 0 to 1/2.

Now, I have the same 6 element unit. The most I can upgrade would be 3?
Either 2 nobles and 1 general or 3 nobles. Or, would I be able to
upgrade 3 nobles (the 1/2 of 6) and then also upgrade the CinC because
he has his own special line? My guess is that I could only upgrade 3
total, but they could be any 3.

Example 2: Georgian List (HW 16), CinC, Sub-General

CinC is purchased as Irr B
Sub-General is purchased as Irr B
On separate line, it is possible to upgrade CinC or Sub-general to Irr
A (all or none)

Aznauri are bought as Irr B
It is possible to upgrade Aznauri to Irr A (either 0 - 2 or all)

I buy the CinC by himself
I buy the S-G with one Aznauri
I buy 2 units, each with 2 Aznauri

Question: I upgrade the CinC to Irr A. Do I need to upgrade anyone
else? (Does the requirement to upgrade the Sub-General still apply, or
does he fall under the Aznauri requirements now?)

Question: If I upgrade the CinC and the Sub-General, how many other
Aznauri can I upgrade to A? 0 or 1 or all 5 should be no problem. The
question is could I upgrade 2?

Question: I want to upgrade all the Aznauri. Would this mean I would
have to upgrade the Sub-General too? If the answer is yes, would I have
to upgrade the CinC then as well?

Example 3: Avar List again, Slavic Ally-General

The Slavic A-G is bought as HC (no choice here)

I must buy 1-6 elements of Slav nobles, which are MC
It is possible to upgrade 0 to 1/2 of the nobles to HC

All I buy is the A-G with 1 additional element. Before any upgrades, I
have a unit of 1 element HC and 1 element MC.

Question: I can upgrade 0 to 1/2 of 2 elements, which means 0 - 1
element to HC. Since I technically did not upgrade the CinC element
already, can I upgrade the MC element? Or is the fact that the A-G must
be HC count toward my upgrade?

Thanks for the answers.
