<<5.42 Rally rules state that a body that moves in any way does not rally

in the approach phase) Under what conditions can
these bodies move then. In 5.42 it says they cannot "respond to an enemy charge"
then in 5.44 it states "...cannot move in any way
(except charge responses)...." >>
First off, 5.4 is hosed and I am currently wading through it. The issue is that
we have a distinction betwen mandatory rally and voluntary, except that there is
only (and only ever has been) ONE voluntary rally (to recover from rally-cured
disorder if you are not otherwise under the restrictions of 5.41).
If a rally is mandatory, you should not be able to charge respond. There is no
precedent for it in the WRG 7.6 rule book, but apparently it has been ruled that
you can off and on for some time. The reference to being able to respond while
in a must rally in 5.44 is a hold over from those rulings. My plan is to:
-make ONE kind of rally (which would be mandatory).
-maybe have a very small exception for getting rid of disorder in those rare
cases when you are disorderd and not also under 5.41.
-not allow charge responses while rallying.
The first two would reorganize 5.4. The last would remove the statement about
chrage responses from 5.44.
Given that we do that (and I am pretty sure we will), the answers to your
questions follow:
<<If a rally is manditory under what
conditions can they respond to enemy charges>>
They will not be able to if unsteady, if I have my way.
If they are steady, they will have completed rallying at the end of approaches,
so could.
<<Additionally is there any circumstance that a player could ignore a mandatory
rally situation.>>
No. That is not my plan.

Hi again every one! Got some more questions.
5.42 Rally rules state that a body that moves in any way does not
rally (except that a rallying body whose closest enemy is to the rear
may turn 180 deg in the approach phase) Under what conditions can
these bodies move then. In 5.42 it says they cannot "respond to an
enemy charge" then in 5.44 it states "...cannot move in any way
(except charge responses)...." If a rally is manditory under what
conditions can they respond to enemy charges or can they? Additionally
is there any circumstance that a player could ignore a mandatory
rally situation. I keep reading the rally and dis-order rules but it
just seems to confuse me even more. :(

Thank you!! I believe that will clear it up and will make for better
playing. I feel much the same as you on this issue. I hate the fact
that my recall skirmishers wont be able to counter charge but as they
would have may have suffered a disordering prep fire result in the
previous bound, it isnt right for them to be able to counter
charge. I do feel that the RALLY rules (expecially for beginers) is a
difficult area of the rules to understand and I am greatly pleased
that you are working to make those rules easier to understand. Good
Luck. Looking forward to another great rule that makes the game more
defined and playable regauardless of historical precidents. Some
things just cant be recreated on table top. Ok now that I've run out
of run on sentences I'll let you go <grin
