The World Rally Cup has a ranking system that runs from year to year.
Each Team/Car that competes in each rally receives points on their
ending position at the end of that rally. The top gets 10 points
and then drops by two down to 2. That means the top team gets 10
points the next 8 points etc etc. Now as you can see points appeared
to be only awarded to the top five. But this is not so. Those who
don't rank in the top 5 places receive one point. At the end of the
year the top point leader, gets the title of "Top Driver of the
Year". We can do the samething. That way everyone starts each year
with a base zero and can only go up from there.

I have been in a ranking system that went on from year to year and
its hard to overcome a bad period of loses in that type of ranking.

My thoughts,

I prefer a system modeled on the CHESS GRADING system. It is very fair as it
has been improved over many many years and means it can be truly
international.

I have been using the same system for my local pool team. It works well.

I am opposed to a ranking system. I frankly see no benefit. Those who
qualify for the nationals compete and a winner for the year is declared.

Rankings have a tendency to create elitism and attitudes. Not to mention
additional headaches for tournament organizers.

If we are just talking about how to score tournaments then that is something
all together different.

Could all of those of you who are commenting on the ranking system go back and
look at the other, far more important, questions that were asked and see if you
have an opinion on them? It is really the stuff on recruiting I was interested
in....
