I'm interested in increasing the number of active Warrior players here on the
West Coast, and I'd like some suggestions on what people think might work.

Right now we have four active or semi-active players in the Bay Area (Lenney
Hermann, Rich Gagliasso, John Bauman, and Mike K.); we have me in Sonora three
hours away; we have Ed Forbes in Fresno (also three hours from the Bay Area and
about two hours away from me); we have Frank Gilson in Southern California. My
son Alex (age 11, lives with his mom in the Bay Area) is just starting to get
interested. In other words, there aren't very many of us, and we're quite
spread out.

I live in a large rural county with a total population of 50,000 so it takes
some effort for me to travel to larger population centers with greater
concentrations of gaming. Our two biggest gaming conventions of the year on on
Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day weekend, which is really tough for me as
those particular long weekends tend to be family time.

We have GenCon coming up in Southern California in early December, and while I'm
perfectly happy to run a tourney there, I'm not sure what that accomplishes
other than giving those of us already committed to Warrior a chance to play
some more. In other words, I just don't see the tournament format as being a
strong recruiting vehicle.

What has worked for other people? And what would work in a region as large as
California where distance is a significant barrier? Should we be thinking of
new gamers altogether, existing gamers new to miniatures, or existing
miniatures players currently playing other systems. "All of the above" is not a
helpful answer, as what will appeal depends on which group we focus on. Anyway,
suggestions are welcome, and needed.
