Quick question, when I got feedback on my Song list, it was commented
that I could exchange some troops for TFs during a game. However,
when I looked at the rules, it seems this is quite limited:

14.46 Adjusting Army Lists in Competition

According to thsi rule, point value changes can only be made:

1. remove complete bodies (but "No element of any body removed can be
from a troop type with an element minimum in the list")
2. remove armor/equipment upgrades (but not compulsury upgrades)
3. combine units to remove command factors (same unit composition)

This seems to mean that most of the stuff you'd like to drop can't be.
i.e. - the swordsman can't be dropped for TF as they are "elements
from a troop type with an element minimum". The same would be true
for the line cavalry, the spearmen, and the bow men.

In fact, the only elements that don't have a miminum on the Song list
are the:

Untrained Militia
Artillery (any of it)
Mongol Horse Archers
Southern Tribesmen
Southern Tribal Bowmen

So, am I reading the rule correctly in that only these few types of
troops could be swapped out? Or is it ok to swap troops as long as
the overall minimum is met? For example, can you purchase a list with
6 shielded sowrdsmen (60 points) and then drop two of them (20 points)
for a ditched palisade? Also, can you get around Mark's problem of
the extra LI by taking the 12 of them that you don't want (24 points)
and swap for, say, 6 elements of caltrops?

Thx,
Dan

I believe that you are reading the current iteration of that rule
correctly. And, yes, it's become almost useless, because things you tae
without minima are rarely those you'd wish to lose Smile.

Dan, you have the right rule. No, you can't ensure you satisfy the minimum and
then use more troops from that same line to buy TFs.

Jon,

Just to be clear. If for example a troop type is listed as 2-16, one takes 16,
then one can not take 2 off, leaving 12 and still meeting the minimum of 2, for
a TF because this type has a minimum of any size?

Good catch Dan!

Argh...oh well, even more reason to hate Swordsmen. They like the
relatives who come to visit on the holidays and then NEVER LEAVE! ;)

Oh well, at least you can still use them as camp guards - they
probably sit around and eat all your fortune cookies anyways, the
rat bastards! LOL

Regards,
Asif
