I really, really want to base up my 25mm Samurai. Assuming that the
Warrior list will keep the choice between using loose or close order,
I'd like to hear from the grognards about how each plays in order to
decide which way to base them.

I recall that Samurai were one of the "super lists" at some point in
time. I'd like to know what made them so, and how Warrior has been
changed to eliminate any cheesy advantages they had.

I'm kind of leaning towards loose order because then it matches the
basing for DBR.

I recently looked at the old Japanese lists. Assuming that your
samurai (and the bulk of your army) remain Irreg B, the strength of
the army is the high morale/eagerness, and the ability of quick
mobile LHI to be less vulnerable to waver tests from mounted
chargers. Also, you are helped by lots of missile power (I happen to
think the switch from LB to B is an overall advantage against most
armies in tournament play).

There is, of course, THE huge disadvantage of this army: No shields.
None. I have frankly never been able to see how this army can win
with such vulnerability to missile fire (and HTH after first bound).
I guess you skirmish in huge units, try to stay in cover, and
unleash hordes of 2hcw-armed impetuous samurai in an attempt to
break somebody on contact. Pretty one dimensional and terrain
dependent in my view. But I'd like to see someone make this army
more competitive. It sure looks pretty.
