Making time, or more appropriately stealing time that I should be
spending on fixing up my kit, while fighting the temptation to get my
armour on and hit someone with a sword :)

With one notable exception, Its been my experience over the last few
decades that luck is the excuse people make to avoid admitting to the
mistakes they've made Seriously though, while luck can play a
role, players either learn to minimize its effects or they don't.
And thats another measure of their skill...

Only a half baked one.
Say in round one of a tourney you or I play Dave and the score is 5-3
for him, in all honesty he likely engineered the bonus points for
himself. In either case, does he really deserve bonus points for
crushing us?
I suspect that if Ewan and Mark played a game at the same time, with
the same score, they would be justified in thinking not :)
But, if there were a ranking system where players were ranked 0-3
where 0 is you or me, and 3 is Dave, a modifier can be applied to
balance the effect.
If there is no difference in ratings, the points used to calculate
the bonus are unmodified, but if there is the number of points from
your opponents score that can be used to calculate the bonus are
reduced by 1 for each level of difference, so Dave's score would be
an adjusted 5-0.
But if we turned the tables, and beat Dave, there would be no
modifier, as I don't believe anyone would argue that it met the tough
game criteria.
But, see my follow up post for a better idea :)

LOL, she is fascinated by miniature cows, especially when we all
stand around making mooing noises ;)
Have fun!
