This came up in a game last night (I was on the short end of this particular
interaction):

I unit of SHI (dismounted SHK) took 2 CPF prep from longbowmen. In one place in
the rules (describing how SHK dismount) it says that SHI are shieldless. In the
CRT, however, they suffer no penalty for being shieldless. We were unclear,
therefore, on whether they were required to waver test under this situation
(taking 2 CPF in prep, and not counting shielded to all shooters). I know
there's been some past discussion of this on the list, but I couldn't recall
the outcome.

We decided they did have to take a waver test. Is that correct? (Yes, they
failed, and yes the unit did rout in subsequent bounds....)

From the clarifications (which should be checked before asking any rules
question...)

11.1 (Pg 74) Add at end: “SHI without shields are counted as shieldless even
though there is no ‘shieldless factor’ on the shooting chart.â€

Jon C,

Once upon a time (beware any post beginning with that phrase),
perhaps in the earlier discussion Mark referred to, you were saying
you were re-considering wether SHI which had shields mounted would
lose them when dismounting. At the time the feeling was it was a
holdover from 7th that lacked a certain credibility, so you were
looking at changing it.

Maybe I am reading way too much into this.

But have you given this any further thought? Obviously, for the very
reason cited by Mr. Stone.

True, and yes, that was a while ago...lol

We researched it and reaffirmed that rules had it right, but needed the
clarification below that was put into the 23 June update and quoted to Mark
earlier to today.
