PostPosted: Thu Oct 07, 2004 2:52 pm    Post subject: SoA Battle Day 2 - venue booked

Following the success of the Gaugamela Battle Day earlier this year the SoA
have decided to do it again - but with a different battle, of course :-)

For those who don't know the idea of the Battle Day is to refight a major
battle from the ancient/medieval period with a wide variety of rules. The
hope is that player will, if they wish, be bale to play in a variety of
games and so be able to see how the different rule sets handle the
challenges posed by the battle in question

Additionally we hope to repeat last years 2 "expert" sessions where the
background to the battle was explained at the start of the day (Phil Sabin
kindly did this), and a Q&A session at lunch where people could ask about
points that interested them about the battle/period (Duncan Head handled
this last time). These were very popular last time.

Date: Saturday 16 April 2005

Venue: Same as last year

Sycamore Hall
Drayton Road
Bletchley
Milton Keynes
Buckinghamshire
MK2 3EL

So now we have a venue we need a battle worthy of a days gaming.

Initial suggestions have thrown up 4 leading contenders:

Qadesh
Sambre
Chalons
Bosworth

each of which has it's merits.

However, we are definitely open to any further suggestions - those from
people willing to host a game are most welcome :-)

The criteria for the battle are fairly simple. It must be well known so that
it appeals to players, it would preferably be decisive in some way and it
must be one that there is a good chance of people having the figures, etc.
for.

So if you have a favourite battle make the case to us and you never know it
may the one that's chosen.

Following feedback from attendees at the first event we are intending to
address some points made. These are:

1. Some people thought the lighting was poor, therefore, we are looking in
to hiring some extra lighting.

2. Finding the venue was not as easy as we thought, therefore, we will also
provide better maps and directions to the venue.

3. To help those using public transport we will pre-arrange pick-ups and
drop-offs from railway stations, etc.

As last time we have a dedicated email address for correspondence:

soabattleday@...

Also we will be setting up a web site again with all the details and will
post updates, etc. to the usual mailing lists.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Nik Gaukroger & Richard Lockwood
