Greetings

As a new member to this list I have a couple of very basic questions
which I hope no-one will mind me asking.

I have been thinking about comparing ancient rule systems using what
15mm figures I have. Because I have a double DBA Polybian Roman army
(with some additions planned) and hoplite Greeks on the painting
table this has focussed my mind on doing a small game based on the
circumstances of the action at Messana in 253 BC between the Romans
and Syracusans.

1. I have an old copy of WRG 7th edition and the old 6th edition
army lists which, I understand, would act as Warrior lists until
Classical Warrior comes out?

2. Assuming that I buy a copy of Warrior in the next few weeks (I'm
in the UK) I think the local stockist is Caliver?

Currently the likely force is:

(Roman) 1 x 2 element HC, 2 x 4 element Principes, 2 x 4 element
Hastati, 2 x 4 element Velites*, possibly 1-2 x 4 element Italian
Campanian allies.

(Syracuse) 2 x 2 element HC, 1 x 2 element LC, 6 x 4 element
Hoplites, 2 x 4 element skirmishers (archers/slingers), 1 x 4 element
Javelins, possibly 1 x 4 element Spanish, possibly 1 x 4 element
Ligurians.

3. How many units would I need to have a small game of Warrior?

4. Presumably the above would have enough elements for Fast Warrior?

Kind regards

Edward

Those lists are still good until superceded by one of our lists.

It is.

Fast Warrior List:
69) Polybian Roman. Warm.
CinC 2E Reg A HC JLS, Sh
x2 Hastati/Princepi 6E Reg C HI HTW, Sh*
Triari 2E Reg B HI LTS, Sh*
Spanish Scutarii 4E Irr C LMI HTW, Sh
Velites 4E Reg C LI JLS, Sh

Looks like you need the Spanish.

FastWarrior List:
52) Syracusan. Warm.
CinC 2E Reg B HC JLS, Sh
Greek Cavalry 6E Reg C LC JLS, Sh
Mercenary Hoplites 8E Reg C HI LTS, Sh
Syracusan Hoplites 8E Reg D or Irr C MI LTS, Sh
Slingers 4E Reg C LI S, Sh
Archers 4E Reg C LI B, Sh

Looks like you need 4E of LC.

1200 Points is a little less than double most FW lists in terms of elements.

Jon

Many thanks, that's really useful.
